My aunt died
I'm not shocked, just a bit sad. She asked to be moved from the assisted living place where she's lived for many years. She said she felt she was going down hill and couldn't do for herself any longer. She felt she needed to be in a nursing home. My cousin arranged everything. She passed away this past Monday. She was 102.
My mom isn't well enough to go from Pensacola to Jacksonville for the funeral. Her baby brother is in the hospital as well. He may have Leukemia. It must be hard on my mom (87). She's watching the last of her siblings die as well as all her friends.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like your Aunt was an exceptional lady, being able to recognize that she couldn't take care of herself and doing something about it so that it wouldn't fall to others to make those hard decisions.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. What an achievement to live to 102 and to have the presence of mind that it sounds like she had. She must have been remarkable.
It is definitely hard to see your siblings and friends die. My father has lost three of his four brothers in the last ten years (the most recent only a year ago) and it's been really hard on him.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt's passing. It's remarkable that she was able to assess her needs so well on her own at her age. It probably gave her a lot of peace of mind to be the one making her own decision, too to move to the nursing home! This can often be a tramatic time for everyone in the family.
My mom is 94 and lives in her own home. It is getting harder for her, but she wants to be able to continue to call as many shots as she can. I think in many ways that the more control that we have over our own lives AT ANY AGE, the better.
I hope that your family will be able to gather support from one another at this sad time and that you will all be able to close ranks around your mom. My mother has said that it feels very weird to be the last sibling still alive out of the whole group including the brothers and sisters-in-law.

Thank for your thoughts. Is there something you'd like to tell us? (I was going to use the word "dump" or "share", but they just didn't seem right).

Thanks everyone. I'll be trying to compile a list of stories about her to share with the rest of the family over the next few months. I hope to get back in touch with some of my cousins and meet more cousins that I never knew I had. I signed the guest book online. I hope someone knows it is there and will read what I wrote.
Thanks again everyone. You've really touched my "newbie" heart.
