Default splenda

Does anyone have trouble with Splenda or other artificial sweetners? They leave a really bad taste in my mouth for a long time and sometimes I am even nauseous.

Hi Carol, I haven't seen you post in a while. Are you still doing Atkins?

I have noticed that I can use splenda, equal or sweet-n-low now. None of them leave a bad taste. I used to hate the taste of sweet-n-low. I use it now some because it is cheaper.

I drink Diet A&W Rootbeer which is sweetened with aspartame. I'm not a fan of aspartame, but this is my one artificial sweetener item. I don't get an aftertaste from it.

BUT

I get the very same awful aftertaste from Splenda..for a really long time too, maybe 1/2 hour to an hour....eeewww.

Equal/Aspartame is the only artificial sweetener i can stand... anything else tastes way too bitter for me. i generally only use it in tea, though.

whatever they use in diet sodas don't bother me too much, but i don't have them very often, and there's only a few that i like (diet pepsi/coke, sprite zero, coke zero).

I'm weird...Splenda is the only artificial sweetener I can handle that DOESN'T give me an aftertaste. Furthermore, aspartame gives me horrible migranes.

I throw up when I have artificial sweeteners, it doesn't matter what kind. There's quite a few great threads around here that discuss these sweeteners and their effects. Good luck!

I've never officially used an artificial sweetener, but when I used to drink pop/soda (it's been about 8 years) I could never stand the taste of diet pop. I also tried the sugar free jello cups, had to throw them away because they tasted pretty nasty to me.

Equal is my favorite. Splenda is gross - it has a really distinct taste and aftertaste.

I never could stand any artificial sweetners till I tried Splenda. It did have an aftertaste to me. But it was simply that of sweetness, not bitterness or chemically like the others I had tried.

Now, I have a hard time telling it from sugar. And I can tolerate other artificial sweetners now too, though I can still taste the aftertaste in those.

Just goes to show, we're all different.

Well I had a sample packet when I got my new mixer. We used it to make chocolate chip cookies and they came out tasting great! The same as always with half the sugar. I bought a bag this month and plan on making pumpkin pie with it.

What I want to know is it safe?

Safe? Depends what you mean. Sugar certainly isn't safe. Eating too much of it leads to weight gain, as well as other things such as messed up blood sugars and tooth decay. Some people eat a little bit of Splenda and have issues with it, while others can eat it by the boatload (points to herself) and have no trouble at all.

You have to decide for yourself if the risk is worth the reward, I'm afraid.

Jasmine: Everyone believes different things about splenda/asparteme. My ob suggested splenda to sweeten things versus nurisweet. But truely it is so new to the market that there may be things that pop up in the coming years.
