Default How to calculate custom food?

Hi everyone...

I am making up a healthy soup type of meal today and I wonder how I should calculate how much of what is in it calorie wise, fat wise, etc.

Should I take all of the items I am putting in, and measure out the WHOLE pot and then divide it up into servings of 1 cup each? I want to be able to accurately track it in my fitday.

Its going to have:
ground turkey
kidney, navy beans, black eyed peas, etc
corn niblets
celery, onion, etc
and maybe some rice, barley or wheat pasta
Tomatoes and a bit of fat free chick stock

so should I just count how much per can, weigh the meat out, etc and punch it all in as a big mass and divide it up?

Help is appreciated!! thanks!

When I make soup or stew, I take all the calorie content of the individual ingredients, add it all up then divide into how many portions the soup/stew makes.

Great, thanks. Thats what I was thinking would make sense. I'll count the measurement and weight of everything I put in and write it all down and add it up / divide it from there!

I posted my recipe in a new thread, I made it last night, not the first time I've made it but the first time I had to figure out all of the cals. It was confusing actually because everything was not measured in cups on the labels. But, I did it.

Hope you like it. I did.

You can go to fitwatch.com and they have a recipe analyzer that works for me usually.
