Default OK I'll start...

I have been posting on this forum without really introducing myself.

I am now 63 and retired Over the last few years, I have lost over 40 pounds, and now have 12 to go to meet my goal weight of 130. While I was working, it was slow going. Now that I'm retired, it's still slow going, although I manage to make it to the gym 5 times a week.

My biggest problem is decreasing the calories. I am still eating at what used to be a losing intake (about 1600/day average), but now has become maintenance. If I can bring that to around 1400/day, I can continue losing. I do well during the day, and then the evening is my downfall.

I joined this board to get ideas and a shot of support to keep going. As I get older, I start thinking- why bother? This is the time of life to let loose and enjoy. But I know if I let go, I will be right back up to where I was (184). No way, my new goal is to outlive my grandmother, who died at 96.

So I keep on trucking. Working out has become one of my favourite activities. To the point that I started researching, and even passed a personal trainer course (at 62!). Not that I will have any clients as we live in a small town, but it might come in handy later on in the nursing home.

The other main reason I became interested in nutrition and fitness: my husband suffers from Crohn's disease, and my daughter suffers from Scleroderma and a failing liver. At least, if I keep my knowledge up, I can control what is within my reach- cooking, planning nutrition, encouraging fitness.

Default My Intro

Hi Northern Belle! I'm not a featherweight by my standards but here I am anyway! My stats: age 41, staying at home and going crazy with 2 young boys. As I try to write this, the 2 year old is on my shoulders and the 5 year old is wanting to see all the smilies Anyway, the older I get the harder it is and I realize that I must start being concerned about my health. Gotta run to the park with these two but I'm looking forward to talking to everyone!

Northern Belle/ Diane? Have you read Tom Venuto's "Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle"? Ilene recommended it. I'm learning lots of sort of little tweaky things that ought to help me 1. get to goal, 2. stay there.
