Default Any tips on relieveing STRESS?

I have been having heart palpitations, and I think they may be from stress. I have eliminated caffine from my diet, and I have also cut down my smoking to only 4 cigarettes a day (I am quitting)...so I am left to believe that they may be from stress. Another reason I have that belief is because the more I think about them, the worse they get! Sooooo, I need to de-stress, and I can't think of a way to do that! I have anxiety, and I am busy, busy, busy with my 2 kids all day. Anyone have any tips/idea for me?

OH, BTW: I have seen a doc, and she did an EKG on me, which came back fine. She also had me wear a Halter Monitor for 24 hourse, and I am awaiting the results for that!

If you can get someone to watch the kids ----how about a nice hot bubble bath with soft music and candlelight?

Find time to spoil yourself---you deserve it!

How recently did you quit caffeine, and how much had you been using before then? Is it possible you're going through caffeine withdrawal?

I quit the caffine on Tuesday, after the doc told me to do so because of the palpitations, so that's not the reason for them....although I did have migranes from caffine withdrawl!

I get where my heart races... I went to the doc and he said it happens more when you think about it and when you are tired. The night my mother had a heart attack, I was up all night and as the night went on they got worse, I couldn't sleep because I thought I was going to die... which made it worse. I stopped drinking the Sobe with ginsing and now I very rarely have issues. I still drink Coke and coffee, it doesn't give me any problems.

Default 10 Stress Relievers

Without knowing what your biggest stressors are:

1. Make lists. Crossing off items I finished makes me feel in control and productive.
2. Long baths. Take the time in the morning to slowly and leisurely start your day.
3. Talk therapy (even if it is to friends on the phone)
4. Excercise (hard to get started, but relieves stress when you are done)
5. Go to a book store. Spending time in a book store looking through stuff seems to provide a sense of calm for me, a way to escape the world.
6. Hot tea at night. Cammomile or Sleepytime tea are good choices. SAVOR it.
7. Calm deep breaths.
8. Always budget "me" time, especially if you have kids or a demanding job.
9. Go to the depression/weight loss forum for additional strategies.
10. SLEEP. Without it, our bodies can deal with the stresses of life!

I think DeafinlySmart is totally right. If you can sit down at night after your kids go to bed with a big cup of decaf tea (it's always good to drink more water!) with your to-do list, you'll feel much more centered. You can see what you've accomplished and have a clear plan for what you still need to do, so you don't have those thoughts swimming around your head. It'll go from "OMG I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO DO WHEN WILL I HAVE TIME?!" to "Okay, these things have been taken care of and these other things can be taken care of tomorrow."

Good luck with the de-stressing and getting down to only 4 cigs a day! I'm really impressed that you're tackling all of these issues at once.
