Foods so delicious it's hard to believe they are healthy!
I saw this on another board and thought it was a great idea. What foods are so delicious, you can't believe they are actually healthy and good for you? (please, no chemicals or fake foods).
Fresh fruit - especially pomegranates, raspberries, cherries, tangelos and mangos
Hummus
A really good stir fry over brown rice with lots of vegetables (orange pepper, shitake mushrooms, broccoli) and tofu
Baked sweet potatoes - in the oven, baked so long the sugar in the skin starts to caramalize (sp?)
Whole wheat tortilla, smeared with peanut butter, nuked for 30 seconds, wrapped around a banana
Dried granny smith apple rings from Trader Joe's (like candy)
Super fresh yellowtail sashimi
Home made guacamole with lots of lemon juice, black pepper, fresh tomatoes and red onions
Vine ripe tomatoes, just picked, still warm from the sun, sliced and sprinkled with a little salt
Whole cloves of roasted garlic
Trail mix - dried fruit and nuts, yum!
Waffles and peanut butter
Baked apple with blueberries
Warm, salty edamame
Red wine
Grilled vegetables - especially onions, asparagus, corn on the cob
Home made pizza with whole wheat crust, tomato sauce, spinach leaves, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, black olives and feta cheese
Cottage cheese with pineapple
Dark chocolate
Crusty bread dipped into olive oil and basalmic vinegar
2 cans of chickpeas, drain and reserve liquid
Bag of sun dried tomatoes (not the kind packed in oil!)
Splash of lemon juice
Minced garlic (to taste, I like a lot)
Red pepper flakes (if you like spicy)
Anything else that catches your fancy - black olives, onions, etc.
Olive oil (2 tbs, if desired)
Put the drained chickpeas into a food processor. Add the sun dried tomatoes, lemon juice, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, olive oil (if desired). Pulse and slowly add the reserved liquid until you reach the desired consistency.
Do you make it or buy it? If you make it, do you have a recipe to share?
I tend to buy it at the store...I tend to like 12 tribes..they have lots and lots of yummy flavors. I do want to try making my own, so I'll let you know how that goes!
I basically stopped eating a lot of junk food and proccessed foods ( like the boxed dinners from Banquet). I increased the amount of veggies I eat, and fruit. And I do lots of yoga and pilates. Yoga has really helped.

This made me laugh, a bit. Our culture has such a weird relationship with food, largely thanks to the way the media frames things, that we find ourselves surprised that healthy food tastes good. The only reason that they wouldn't taste good is that our taste buds are so distorted by all the added chemicals, sugars & fats of processed foods that they can't appreciate how wonderful honest, natural food tastes.
Once we wean ourselves off unnatural stuff, "real" food just tastes better & better! (and also, we begin to find that the fake stuff we used to eat tastes sort of strange).
I think ALL healthy foods taste good. The foods I like in particular, of course, which are quite a few. I love eating healthy foods. Sure, cookies and cake and ice cream taste good, but I enjoy eating a piece of baked fish and vegetables just as much
Tropical Wholefoods banana chips. I got a bag for Christmas and they are positively DELICIOUS! And nothing but bananas -- sun-dried and yummy! Problem is, I can't find them in the States . I suspect they're only sold in Britain.
