Default Guindalf's Quest Day Two

Good afternoon!

Thanks to the replies from yesterday. I so want to completely change my thinking about myself and my daily life, and not be spending so much time condemning myself for screwing up!

I appreciated the post today about self love. I am going to give the "look in the mirror and say I love you to yourself" a try. It seems silly, but for those of us who have spent so much of life beating ourselves up for failure, I think this is vital. If you didn't read it, do!

Yes, day 3 of walking on the treadmill!!! Sounds lame, but oh, so good for me! I am so inconsistent with exercise, and so 3 days in a row.....Whoohooo!!!

On Good Morning America this morning there was a short report about how there is a new study that now says that getting on the scale everyday is a good thing......what do you think? I thought it was good that they made the important distinction when they said that it is helpful for those who are maintening their weight because it stops you from just going along without knowing how much you weigh and perhaps are putting on, but for those of us with long term weight loss ahead of us, I think getting on the scale every day doesn't help at all, at least not for me. I can drink a glass of water and gain 2 pounds!! And really at 269 pounds does it matter if I'm 270 or 268??? I mean really??

Ah well. Tonight I'm going to think on the idea that so many of our weight loss metaphors have to do with warfare!! I mean, fighting the battle of the bulge, winning/losing, conquering the demons, etc. I'll talk about it more tomorrow.

Learning something new each step of the way.......

I weigh in once a week. I may do it daily when I start to maintian but I'm not sure. I say I weigh once a week but I usally sneak a peek once or twice a week just to see where I am at. I just record it once a week.

I am like Howie. I weigh once a week at around the same time. That way I avoid the fluctuations that may occur on a daily basis. Once I hit maintenance I may change that until I used to maintaining, but for now, I am good with one week.

I too, weigh in once a week *Monday mornings*. It is usually recommended that you don't weigh in daily due to common fluctuations. Once you get to your maintenance weight, however, it is recommended that you weigh more often and not go more than 5 pounds beyond your maintenance weight.

I weigh in daily because I like data (engineer disease ).

It is helpful to know how my weight flucuates during the month and on a day to day basis. I know that if my weight is 2# higher from one day to another, it doesn't mean I have 2 more lbs of fat -- just water. I get happy each time I hit a new "low" point on the scale.

Every month, I get body fat measured (caliper method) and take several tape measurements -- that's what I count as my "official" weight .
