So I have pretty much been eating the Mediterranean Diet, but have been hitting plateaus left and right. I started the SOnoma Diet on Monday, even though normally I don't like to follow a diet plan (the Med Diet is not a plan, but a genre of eating for life). The Sonoma Diet, for those who don't know since it is so new, is basically the weight loss version of the Mediterranean diet and it too is for life (but for the life of a person who struggles/has struggled with weight). There are 3 waves. The first one lasts 10 days and is meant to cleanse the body of all sweets and processed foods, as well as teach portion control. It also provides quick weight loss for 10 days to get you motivated. It is the only time that fruit is not allowed. The next wave is done through all of weight loss. The third wave is basically the Mediterranean diet -- but with a few choices specific to a person who struggles/has struggled with weight.
I am on day 3 and down 4 lbs. Now, I know this is a combination of water weight and the low-cal part of wave 1, but I so needed to see my scale drop. I had been so diligent, eating on plan and exercising 6 times a week and STILL plateauing! I do think that certain ways of eating are just right for certain people. This seems right for me -- especially since I don't normally do sugars or processed foods. However, I am noticing now that I was eating a regular Med diet and that it might have contained too many calories and an uneven distribution of nutrients for ME. I am thinking this might be it for me -- just the kicker I have been needing -- a little extra discipline and motivation.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this new helpful tool that I am enjoying, as some of you might find it helpful for yourselves. There is also a new forum here on 3fc for Sonoma that has been helpful.
