Default coke or water.. you pick

A very healthy friend sent this too me. I really wonder about #2 under COKE

WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.

#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a
sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?

or Coke?

Wow, I'm glad that I don't crave soda like I do other stuff.

I'd be interested in seeing the research that supports some of those water statements.

I'd probably still choose the coke. Tastes better. ;x

I think I've read something like that before. It's rather interesting, eh?

Wyllenn, ditto for me on the research evidence. Some of the Coke statements are known urban myths (like the dissolving a bolt, etc.). This list has made the rounds on the internet for years (not that they're all untrue, but just.....it would be nice for once to see these kinds of blanket statements backed up).

entertaining.. I do wonder how much truth is in it. I was curious about the coke and the steak. But I don't want to waste good meat!!

I've known a few elementary school teachers who have taken on these kinds of things as experiments in critical thinking for their students and put a (small) steak in coke. My favorite though was them checking to see if there really WERE 100 chips in every Chips Ahoy cookie (yes!--they soaked the cookies in water and then washed away everything but the chocolate chips). I think some of the cleaning things with the coke are true, but then, I use water to wash off dirt too These kinds of lists are good for getting people thinking--i KNOW water would be a smarter drinking choice, but I'm giving up so much else that I'll keep my diet coke, at least for now!

I've heard quite a few of those for coke, but haven't heard the different cancers that water lowers the risks of. Like everyone else I'd love to see the research for it.

I still drink diet coke every so often. Not nearly as often as water though!

I don't know about any of the Coke statements except #7. My mom (her mom and subsequently I) always pour a can of Coke over our holiday hams. Works great!

Coke was my number one downfall. When I started the South Beach diet, I actually started reducing and giving up soda a couple weeks before I started phase 1 - I knew it would be very, very hard to give up (and it was!). It wasn't even just the flavor - I found the "fizz" addictive, too. I don't drink Diet Coke, since a. I don't like it, and b. even if I did like it, it would get me back into drinking soda. Now that I've finally kicked a bad habit I've had since I was very young, I don't want it back again!

I noticed, too, that soon after I kicked the soda habit and while I was going through phase 1 of the SBD (de-tox), water starting to taste better. By the time I started phase 2, it even tasted delicious to me. I never thought that would happen! I liked water okay before - but delicious? Who'd'a thunk?!

I have this too but didn't post it because so many people here seem sceptical of anything that smacks of "alternative health" or those types of ideas and more specifically anything that is anti-un natural products and pro-natural health and healing and I didn't want others to attack me, my ideas or think of me as extreme

I drink a gallon of water a day and drink little else. It works for me! I wasn't always like this; I used to eat junk food, foods full of chemicals and artificial sweeteners. I also used to be plagued with migraines, cluster headaches, endometriosis and scores of other ailments. I changed my diet and lifestyle and am symptom-free today. All I can do is speak for myself and my own experience and drastically changing my diet and avoiding things like Coke has made all the difference for me.

We're all different Yogini! I don't think you would have been attacked...Dana wasn't.

Nobody can argue the fact that natural unprocessed foods are better for us than chemicals etc...
BUT
What works for each individual is what I care about...

I myself am nervous about aspartame...but I love me a diet pepsi in the evening..do I have a little guilt over it? Sure. But I don't have any nasty side effects, either.

I've never seen someone be attacked for their beliefs on this board.

Yogini... the best thing about this board is.. we all do what is right for us.. and (sometimes) to my amazement we all respect that The only rule - no starving ourselves... yeah, right, like that would happen!

My friend sent this too me because both dh and I drink too much soda. I'm down to about 1 a day.. which is an incredible improvement!!

Wow. And to think how much soda is drank in 1 day in this world. It sure is addicting. I have cut down to 1 diet pepsi a day (if that) and I sure did get the withdrawls. I "treated" myself to one tonight as I logged on, and here was the post. Hahahaha...too funny.
