How do you count your microwave popcorn?

I'm wondering if I've been miscalculating my popcorn all this time. Their darn labels are so confusing.
We usually buy the Pop Weavers butter variety. I've tried the light butter or no butter but they tend to burn in our microwave or not pop up very well.

It says that for 1/3 of the bag unpopped it has 150 calories or 1 c. popped has 38. I've just been multiplying the 38 by 3 for roughly 114 calories but I know there has to be more than 3 cups of popcorn in that bag. So do I need to pop a bag and measure how many cups or what?

Is it a regular size bag? I think they usually have about 12 cups per bag. So I would guess you'd be looking at about 456 cals.

I hate popcorn bags too. Why tell us the cals unpopped? Who is going to need to know that????

Yeah it's a regular sized bag. That's about a 300 calorie difference. Going to definitely find a different snack now.

I don't think you have to. They have all kinds of varities that are 98% fat free that have like 15 cals per cup (I think) and then there is always the mini-bag option.

I do the mini snack sized bags. No fuss, just pop it up and enjoy. I'm a convenience kind of girl, the easier the better!

I agree... those darn popcorn people are crazy! I hate trying to decipher the calories. But the mini bags are a great idea. :)

I guess I need to stock up on the mini bags.

I don't like the residue from microwave popcorn that it leaves in your mouth. I have an air popper, 1/4 cup unpopped equals 3 cups popped and that is one starch serving. I use butter flavored cooking spray to flavor it (calorie free!).

I guess this means movie theater popcorn is out of bounds, huh?

Hmmm, Dawnyal, it confuses the beejezus out of me too. I don't have one handy, but I figured it out sometime and I think light popcorn was around 350 per bag. I'm not too sure though.

That "butter flavored cooking spray" is not completely calorie-free. It is labled 0 calories for the defined serving size. The regulations allow a company to do that if the serving is less than 5 calories. So, depending on the type of spray you're using, each "serving" might be 4 calories, and that adds up; after all, I'm sure the first ingredient listed is some sort of oil or other fat. That doesn't mean you can't use it, but just read the label and understand what you're using and how much.

I nabbed this from another site. It's very helpful I found.

I finally popped a bag this weekend and it is 8 cups or 320 for the entire bag. I think I'm going to pop it and start splitting it in half (put the rest in a zippy and have 2 160 cal snacks out of it.)
