Hello all. I posted last night on the support thread, and then went searching for this thread. I am a WAHM married to my US Marine who's never home, and mommy to my little guy who is 21 months. I also have a daughter from a previous marriage living with her daddy.
When my daughter was barely 1, (now 5) I found this site, and found the support I needed to lose the weight, and maintain it until 2003. I've gained weight since being put on bed rest with my son, well over 2 years ago. Not just a little weight either. My husband is very thin, and eats alot of fried foods, I join him. He has never complained about my weight although I think I saw a tear in his eyes when we were packing up my skinny clothes LOL.
I work from home, and spend 80% of my time in front of a computer, or at one of my sewing machines. I stopped eating in my studio already, and would like to start walking. I have a jogging stroller, and shoes, I just can't seem to go out there.
As far as eating plans, I don't have one. Looking for suggestions on that. Something thats fairly simple to do when cooking for 3.
Thanks in advance, can't wait to get to know ya'll

You are the right place for support. One suggestion for the walking is to start small. Don't think that you have to walk 3 miles right now. Just start off with a smaller goal, say 15 mins a day, then gradually increase your time. I don't know where you live or what type of weather you have right now, but if you have bad winters, you might want to try low-impact aerobic tapes such as the Walking Away the Pounds series. I'm sure other folks on this board will have some good suggestions for you. Hope you find a plan that works for you!
You might want to check out the lowfat recipes in this site. There's some good ones. You can always simplify them for easy prep and for the kids.
I use fitday.com to keep track of my calories. I had to play around to find the right amount of exercise and the calorie level that works for me. So, you might find that you'll need to do that. I work at the computer all day for my job too, so I need to plan the exercise around that. Hang in there!
Welcome! I think the most important thing to do is exercise. For me, it's much easier to do something affirmatively like exercise, then limit what I eat! But I know it's hard with a little one (I have a one-year-old). I think it's a great idea to incorporate your son into your exercise routine.
Welcome! Some great ideas here already. There are some incredible people on this board with incredible weight losses that will inspire you. I know they inspire me!
Thanks so much! For the most part the weather where I am is very nice, been rainy lately though. I might have to try a tape or something. I've considered getting a exercise bike, but not sure if I'll really commit, or if it will be used as a clothes hanger
Today I'm going to commit to at least a 20 minute walk. I do clean alot, if that counts for exercise then I'm probably getting a little bit more!
Welcome sewmama... I'm new here too. I wish I could be your walking buddy. I have been so lucky to have 2 pals that love to walk. We have a 3 kilometer and a 4 kilometer walk. I have also ordered a set of DVDs from the Yoga Learning Centre. They are for dancing. Ok the drapes will have to be closed and the mirrors covered for my initial dances. I know the most important step for me was to really forgive myself for my weight gain. Then take small steps towards a permanent change. I will never diet again but am learning to eat well and live well. There ole pros here have great advice... welcome and Blessings for your new beginning. Lori
I recommend cooking low fat meals for all the family - then weighing out smaller portions of carbs for yourself. If you have to cook seperate meals for everyone then it's hard to stick with. I don't know about your man, but mine will eat whatever I put in front of him as long as he has a 'man sized portion' and doesn't feel deprived.
You'll have those skinny clothes unpacked in no time!
