OT: Favorite Poem
Do you have a favorite poem? I'm in a poetry mood, and I'm redecorating my room with poetry. Any suggestions?
My all-time favorite poem is: The Rainy Day The day is cold, and dark, and dreary It rains, and the wind is never weary; The vine still clings to the mouldering wall, But at every gust the dead leaves fall, And the day is dark and dreary. My life is cold, and dark, and dreary; It rains, and the wind is never weary; My thoughts still cling to the mouldering Past, But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast, And the days are dark and dreary. Be still, sad heart! and cease repining; Behind the clouds is the sun still shining; Thy fate is the common fate of all, Into each life some rain must fall, Some days must be dark and dreary. by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |
I love Longfellow! My favorite is "The Children's Hour". I have a book callled "Best Loved Poems Of The American People" which is beganning to fall apart though much loved use. One I really love is "The Female Of The Species" by Rudyard Kipling. It's very impowering and funny. :merry:

Here's the story behind this poem. I was in the 6th grade and a boy in my class ran up to me smiled handed me this note and ran away. I opened it up and this is what it said.
Dreams I'll see you in my dreams tonight The way I always do I'll hug my pillow very tight And make belive it's you I'll whisper sectrets in your ears that only lovers share I'll see you in my dreams tonight and oh please oh please be there I was in awe I had no ideal he liked me. I went to look for him and he was gone. I did find him the next day at school and thanked him and he turned bright red. He couldn't speak. lol Which was weird because we played baseball and all kinds of sport together (I was a tomboy) He moved away shortly after he gave me the poem but it has stuck in head since he gave it to me. I wonder where he is now. lol |
I have a favourite poem. I acutally wrote it for my mother on my wedding day to show my appreciation.
To My Mom I wasn’t perfect, I wasn’t ideal I didn’t clean my room; I never made a meal I stayed out too late, talked back when I shouldn’t I wanted to test my wings and got mad when I couldn’t We are so much alike, my mother and I We argued too much, did not see eye to eye I couldn’t wait, to be out on my own To try out the ropes, to be fully grown You were never afraid; to speak what you thought You knew what I’d done, well before I got caught It’s wasn’t until, I was out of your home I realized what I missed, when I started to roam A friend, a companion, who could always defend Giving love unconditionally, a love that did not end Even when I wasn’t perfect, ideal or good When the going got tough I knew I always could Turn to my mom with her good advice Even now I turn to you, as I become a wife I thank you so much, for all that you’ve done For what you have made me And for what I’ve become Now I’m proud of the fact that I am so like you I hope I continue to do in all the things I do I hope that when you see me, you can smile with pride As Dad walks me down the aisle and I become a bride These words can’t express, just what you mean to me But I will strive everyday to make sure that you see I only hope that when my day comes to be a mother too That I will be as good a mom As great a mom as you And I had one for my dad as well Daddy’s Little Girl Today is finally the day That I will be a bride, I look at you to see A father gleaming with pride. But first there are a few things That I would like to say, I love you more and more With every passing day. I remember as a little girl I felt comfort in your arms, And hoping that someday I’d find A man with all your charms. I found that man, daddy That I do love so, But please know this daddy That my love for you will never go. So as you walk me down the aisle, I know we’ll shed some tears, And remember all the good times, And love throughout the years. I am the bride today, But in my eyes you’ll see, That somethings never change, Because Daddy’s Little Girl I’ll always be. That was the only time in my life I've ever written a poem, lol! |
Here's one for you all 3fc ladies. This is my first attempt at writing poetry in English....
To all 3fc ladies To all of you my beautiful virtual buddies, Who as me, may feel imprisoned in their bodies, Through this magic web have found each other, Despite beauty standards that about us just don’t bother, Our road may look like a maze, We will try to sort piece by piece, But someday we will be amazed By our reward, inner peace. This is for all of you beautiful ladies, I whish you happy holidays, Try to not have to much cookies, And 2005 will see brighter days. |
Frenchipolarbear,your such a sweetie,and so clever . :merry:

This poem is so true, I love it. Hope you all enjoy.
Phenomenal Woman: Maya Angelou Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them, they think I'm telling lies. I say, It's in the reach of my arms, The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It's the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing of my waist, And the joy in my feet. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can't touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can't see. I say, It's in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Now you understand Just why my head's not bowed. I don't shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing, It ought to make you proud. I say, It's in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need for my care. 'Cause I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. |
aw, what nice poems! you are all very good writers. I wish I could write poetry, it's just not my bag (even though I'm an English writing major, go figure!)
This is my favorite (can you tell I'm obsessed with ee cummings much?) i like my body when it is with your body. It is so quite a new thing. Muscles better and nerves more. i like your body. i like what it does, i like its hows. i like to feel the spine of your body and its bones, and the trembling -firm-smooth ness and which i will again and again and again kiss, i like kissing this and that of you, i like, slowly stroking the, shocking fuzz of your electric fur, and what-is-it comes over parting flesh . . . . And eyes big love-crumbs, and possibly i like the thrill of under me you quite so new |
