Default Veggie Dip Recipe?

Do you have a good one that uses plain yogurt so it's low fat? I mean, I could just add dill to the yogurt... hmm. I just thought maybe some of you would have a better idea!

I don't have one that uses yogurt, but I'll give you my recipe, just in case...

I don't know if you can make my recipe to fit your way-of-eating (I watch carbs myself, but maybe it would work with the low fat version of the ingredients?), but what I use is:

- about 1 cup of mayo and 1 cup of sour cream
- 1 package of Knorr vegetable soup mix

So, that makes a bunch, but it keeps for awhile. I really, really like it, and it's what I always bring to potlucks if I'm on veggie-duty.

here's something to do with the yoghurt: put a coffee filter in a strainer. then dump the yoghurt into it. cover the strainer, and then put it all on a pot or bowl in the refrig overnight to drain the water out of it. you can drain it for about 8 hours so that it gets like very thick sour cream, or you can drain it for a couple of days and it'll be more like cream cheese.

you can use this in lots of ways, from whatever you'd use cream cheese on, to mixing it with peanut butter for more protein and less fat, and you can use it for dips.

and dry dressing mix would work great. so does basic old onion soup mix. anything you'd use sour cream for you can sub yoghurt.

let us know what you come up with. i'm sure it'll be yummy.

Apryl - I make veggie dip with the no fat sour cream (you really can't taste the difference from regular sour cream!) with onion soup mix. 1/4 cup = 1 WW point (which is usually around 50 calories).

1 cup fat free sour cream + 1 cup salsa = Pink Dip such a no-brainer, so good as dip or on baked potatoes

1 cup f/f sour cream
1 cup f/f cottage cheese
chopped onion, as much as you like
horseradish, as much as you like

Whirl together in the blender until smooth. Good w/raw veggies.

You could add dill to the yogurt, that is what I put on baked salmon.

SAPF - I make the FF sourcream and salsa dip, too. It is delicious with FF tortilla chips. Also really good if you add chopped tomatoes and green onion! YUM!

Kris: Isn't it the best??? I make guacamole that way too, mash up an avocado & just mix in salsa. My best friend is a great cook & he calls that cheating, but I say to each their own.

All is fair in the kitchen.....

I always "cheat" when I'm cooking. It's fun and it's an easier way to get variety.

The salsa/sour cream sounds great! I love "nachoey" (love making up words, too!) stuff. Much better than potato chips/dip.

I wound up using the yogurt and adding onion soup mix, it's very good.

Try it Apryl! Makes a great replacement for "real" nachos...that was something I used to have for dinner on a fairly regular basis, so I needed to adapt a healthier nacho, so I didn't feel deprived.

SAPF - Not cheating if it tastes good and is healthier! A friend of mine gave me this great quacamole recipe....to stretch the calories even further (because avocado has a lot of fat - but good fat), try finely mincing seeded cucumber. I know...it doesn't sound great, but I promise that it is! The cucumber just takes on the flavour of everything else and mixed in with the avocado it is the right texture. I also like to add finely minced peppers and lime juice to stretch it...
