Question Is it normal to get bad headaches when you first start trying to lose weight?

I've not been dieting really, just watching my portion sizes and calorie counting. I'm aiming for 1,200 - 1,400 calories per day because I am rather overweight, short, and I'm not very athletic currently. I will be starting to slowly add in some exercise soon.
Anyway, when you first start eating healthy and cutting out the junk food (white carbs, sugar, etc.) is it normal to have a headache at the end of the day? If it is normal, when does it start to get better?
P.S. I do make sure to stay very hydrated. I drink lots of water!

Definitely. It's going off the carbs. I usually have a headache for a few days when I first significantly drop the number of bad carbs I'm eating.

Hi from another five foot two-er

Me too, reducing the bad carbs can really give me a bad headache for a couple of days. Good job on the hydration though, I think that's the best way to move the headache on and the weight off.

Good luck!!

I had the most horibble headache when I cut my sugar three days ago! Yesterday I ate some vread and it really helped :-)
I'm glad I'm not the only one coping with this addiction.

Have you stopped drinking soda's or things with caffeine in them by any chance? I think withdrawal from that can cause headaches as well.

Hope it goes away soon and that you feel better!

When you stop eating/drinking sugar (going on a low-carb diet, not drinking sodas, not drinking juice), you're going through a detox similar to quitting smoking or any other long-term addiction. Things like getting the sweats, feeling "weird" or trembling, headaches, feeling shaky, etc are all common.

Caffeine withdrawal can also cause the same kind of detox!

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to hear it is normal. I am still drinking a coffee in the morning and having a few cups of green tea through out the day, but I'm thinking it is still sugar withdrawal.
My body HATES sugar. I eat something sweet and immediately gain 5 pounds! It has been a few days though and now the headaches are starting to lessen and I don't feel so hungry all the time. I think I'm already starting to get used to it fortunately!
