Default What is my weight goal?

That's the question. Am I the only one who doesn't know what I want my ultimate goal to be? I started at 299 9/9/14. I'm down to 222 today. The thing is- my biggie goal right now is just to get under 200-haven't done that since my 30 yr old twins were in kindergarten! So after that I want to weigh less than my skinny husband ( around 160) But from there? Who know? My lowest weight as a grown up was 107. I'm only 5' tall. But lets get real here- I'll be 64 on 4/6 and have been morbidly obese a long time. So I guess around 129-139 because I remember that weight and being satisfied there, until that 2nd baby came. I like knowing where I'm headed but can't decide where that is except healthy. Why are those numbers so important to me? I'll have to sit with that awhile. What about you?

To be honest, your final goal weight finds you, not the other way around. My body hit about 165lbs then stalled out. Then I started exercising more (heavy weights, running), eating more healthily (to fuel the exercise) and I am now sitting pretty at 178lbs.

I chose my end weight just by looking up the healthy weight range for my height. Then chose 5 lbs below the highest weight in the range. But I know there's a possibility I might want to go lower than that once I get there if I'm still not happy. I didn't know how else to choose a weight goal and felt that made the best sense.

I have a hard time with that also, for me it was hard to choose something that seems so far away. Almost unpractical, however I just went with a chart...but honestly, my goal is to not have and rolls while standing straight up..lol. Maybe that seems shallow but I HATE the overhang on my back right below my bra band. I have a little less than 100 lbs to go and I know I can hit my goal, but what do I do when I get there?

Many of us face the same question, and from everything I've read here it seems to be a process of trial and error. That is, you choose a number and aim for it, then see how you feel as you approach/reach that number, and revise as necessary. There are also folks who might go by overall feel, appearance, clothing size, inches, instead of weight.

I have a number in mind based off of what I was once told by a trainer(?) + BMI, but truly, I'm not sure what my goal weight is. It's definitely a flexible matter.

My weight goal is 125 pounds. I am quite short at 5'0" and currently weigh 240 pounds. The last time I was 125 pounds was before junior high. Being short I think makes it harder to lose. But more important than losing pounds is losing inches off my belly which has gotten huge since I graduated from highschool in 2010. I would like to be fit and trim in time for my 5 year reunion (or at least 10 yr. reunion).

As of RIGHT NOW, I am saying my goal is 180. Yes, that is still a relatively high number, and over the "healthy" range by about 30 lbs. But, even if I get there and then never drop another pound, it is still miles better than where I started. I have said I will get there and then re-evaluate. See how I feel, how long it took to get there, what my fitness levels are, etc. I may chose to keep going, or just maintain a while. Or, depending on how it goes, I may just blow past it and keep going. I'm not pressuring myself to hit any certain weight or size. I'm getting healthier, period.

My personal goal was 200lbs (losing 232lbs).. Once i met that i then focused on pants measurements goal of size 32. Met that at 181lbs (252lbs loss) so now i have been on maintenance... BMI considers me as overweight but i am so much happy and healthier than when i was less than 2 years ago.

I have no idea what my goal weight is at this point either . I think I am just really afraid to put down a number. I have such a long way to go and I am just afraid that it may discourage me. Right now I just want to keep going, and I know I will get to where I need to go.

I have set a weight goal but really it's based on my size goal. I am at my healthiest and trimmest as a size 12/14 and I weight between 185-215 at those sizes. So my goal is technically a size goal which I think is better than a goal that relies on a specific number!

I also started at 299 pounds, and my initial goal was to get under 200. Your goal weight can change as you go, it can get lower or higher depending on how your body feels! My goal weight has gotten lower and lower as I've progressed and 130-135 is where I see myself now (although I would've never made that my goal when I was 299)

WOW! lots of great ideas.I think your right IanG, I believe I'll know it when I get there. Iagal-really feeling ya, Hate that tummy roll myself - Just a flat tummy could very well be my goal- only I'm so afraid no matter if I weigh the 107 the day I fell in love with my hubby (45 years ago)I'll still have skin rolls and unless medicare pays for removal- probably always will. *%# it!
And there it is -out there to see- In my heart of hearts I want to be that 5'1/2" tall 107 pound girl again. I do visualizations that involve- well visualizing my thin self. I seemed to have "settled" for an extra 20-30 pounds because of my age. I hope I'm right Ian, I hope I find peace with whatever the size ends up being. I am very happy to already feel so much more healthy at 216. KissKiss you are such an inspiration to me- to know you started where I did. That 299 was a real shocker for short me- No way could I bear to see 300 I thank God everyday for the help he sent.

I don't have a goal set in stone. For example, I know that going under 132 I'll be reaching my ideal weight. However, I know that at 132 my face looks extremely skinny and it doesn't look attractive, while the rest of my body will still have a bit of fat here and there (especially around my waist). I know that at 143 my face will look great and my body might look like it needs some extra work. At 154, the weight I had most of my life since I was 15, is a comfortable weight for me. I'm overweight, I will look overweight, but I know it works for my body... so... I really don't know what weight I will set with. Will I go for the ultimate goal of going under 132 and look emaciated? Will I go for other goals that will make me look ok, or will make me look like I still have some work to do? I don't know.

So far, my goal is 154, my weight when I got married, and I'll go from there.

I think setting a goal weight under 200 is pretty good. I set my goal weight based on the highest "normal weight" figure for my height (which at the time I thought was 5'8- I'm actually 5'7). As I approached that number, I realized that I wanted to go lower to achieve the look I wanted. It's helpful to set a goal but you can always adjust it upwards or downwards as you approach where you originally thought you wanted to be.

Thanks Toasted and Pauliten, I have since decided that 129 is my goal due to wanting to be at a healthy BMI. If , when I get there I'd like to set new goals I will. But this is the biggy for me: Being healthy. I'm reading "Goddesses Never Age" By Dr. Christine Northup and have now decided to leave off the thinking that my age would prevent me from this. What an eye opener this book- you young'uns- get it for your mom, she will thank you.
