I picked Jemima J, only because I haven't read the other one. Might pick it up this weekend though

I read Good in Bed and was disappointed... so I vote for Jemima....

I liked Good in Bed better, myself!

I've read both..

never heard of either one... been ages since I have heard a book! what are they about?

mthrgoos68 08-06-2003 08:29 AM

I've an avid reader (usually 2-3 books a week), but somehow I've missed both of these. Thanks for the ideas!

i've read both. good in bed was actually much better, in my opinion. i voted for that!

AmyJ 08-06-2003 12:16 PM

I'm with Holly. I really enjoyed them both, but I thought Good in Bed was better, had a little more meat to it...Could also be that it took place in my new hometown--Philly!

Good in Bed was better.

In Jemima J, the weight just seemed to drop off of her, although the whole situation w/Brad in CA was *very* interesting. (Not going to say any more so as not to give it away)

Good In Bed is my favorite book ever. I read Jemima J first and flung it across the room in disgust. Sorry to those who liked it!

suzie76 08-06-2003 03:57 PM

Jessica,

I didn't like Jemima J either-I thought "yeah, right, you can really just all of a sudden drop all that weight....and exercise for hours after being out of shape your whole life-real realistic!

I did love Jane Green's book "Bookends" though.

see, i didn't like it when i was in the middle of it and she was dropping so easily, but the author kept making it sound like it was really bad. remember, her trainer wasn't happy she was losing so unhealthily.

and i did think it redeemed itself by the end. i think it was supposed to make a point about how society and image are so prevalent in our culture.

the book actaully propmted a deep discussion about those topics with david and i. it had me down that she lost weight so fast but i realized the value of the story.

See and I understood Jemima's point of view better than the heroine in Good in Bed. I have been in that place where the way I looked dominated everything and I did push did get thinner (I am talking 15 g of fat a day or less). And I really understood the high and the new food free friends you get. Don't get me wrong Good in Bed was awesome, but the heroine was so self centered that it took a major tragedy to make her get real.
