I need advice!

  • I recommitted to 1200 calories a day yesterday. Yesterday sucked, but I made it through. Today I've already used 75% of my calories, but now my mom is insisting we go to dinner as a family for her birthday.

    Would you refuse to go?
Would you go, chalk it up to a "cheat day", and get back on track tomorrow?

Going and not eating is not an option.
  • Where does she want to go? Do you track any other macros, or just calories?
  • Order a salad and ask for an oil based salad dressing on the side.
  • To a steak house

And no, I just count calories right now
  • I'd try to chose healthier stuff, eat only half, and refuse bread if there is some. Yes, I'd probably still be over but I'd be putting less of a dent than I normally would off plan.
  • I'd go and do the best you can, go with a grilled meat option, tell them no butter or oil in cooking. for sides go with the veggies and again, no butter/oil/sauce. or similarly a side salad.

many restaurants now denote their light meals somehow, often 500 cals or less. look for those meals.

You may end up a little over, but it won't be horribly over
  • As above, I would go and eat as low-cal as possible. No doubt, you'll be over your calorie limit by some. I'd treat any overage as a "cheat", but for a good cause, and get right back on track tomorrow.
  • Get a nice lean 6 ounce sirloin with a side salad in place of the potato option. Slice half the steak into your salad, save the other half for tomorrow. To drink, have either unsweet tea or club soda with a slice of lemon (it scream less "I'm on a diet, yall" and more "I want something other than a Coke"). Keep in mind that most steak houses cook the steak in butter to keep them moist. They also tend to use a LOT of salt in whatever their house seasoning is, so drink a ton of fluids later tonight. Enjoy your mom's birthday.
  • The dinner salads at restaurants are often topped with such rich options that they are no lower calorie than just getting a meal, so just having a salad isn't always your best option on a diet.
  • Thanks for all the advice y'all!

I guess I'll chalk it up to a cheat day and get right back on plan tomorrow!
  • No need to cheat f you order carefully. Small grilled steak, salad with dressing on the side.
  • You might have to go over, but try to go as least over as you have too. Perhaps take a walk before or after or both :-) might help offset a bit
You can be thankful you didnt eat all your calories before you found out you needed to go!
