Default Um Okay!

Today was the big vitality health screening at work. I was hoping to be 234 or UNDER on their scales by this time. I was barely under 234 this evening when I weight on my scale (bad weekend).

Here are my results after fasting for 9 hours:
They measured my height and I'm 5'6? I always thought I was about 5'7"-5'8". This kind of wrecks all my goal weights. Now I have to adjust them. On their scale, I weighed 239. My glucose and blood pressure was good (they always are). My total cholesterol was 151, HDL 47, TC/HDL ratio 3.2, LDL 91, triglycerides was 67. The nurse said that my HDL was too low and that exercise would fix it (right now I'm doing about 2 hours of low intensity a week bare minimum). Although the shock of being shorter is killing me.

Hey there...
About the height... I have been measured at anywhere from 5'8" to 5'11"... I think it just depends on WHO is doing the measuring... But, I did consistantly measure an inch shorter while pregnant... I think a good bit depends on how you are standing, too...

I was really trying to stand up tall! I don't know if I was ever really measured. My mom is 5'7" and I was an little bit taller. So we always said 5'8"

I always thought I was 5'9" but based it on the last time I was actually measured which was in high school which for me was over 40 years ago. I got measured a few months ago in the doctor's office by a nurse who was at least 5-6 inches shorter than I was. She was literally jumping up and down to see where my head was and put me down as being 5'5" tall!!!! The doctor immediately ordered a bone density scan because she thought I had lost 4 inches. I told her to get a stool for the nurse, she remeasured me and I'm now at 5'7". Lost 2 inches? Yep -- doctor says that's normal as we age plus some people measure with shoes on, some don't. It's all somewhat something of a dice roll.

Also, all those charts with weight based on height. I was surprised -- and happy -- to learn that your height to use is supposed to be with 1" shoes on. In other words, I'm supposed to use 5'8" as my height.

That's funny, I was shorter too. How old are you? Seems after 5 pregnancies and getting into my late 30's I too lost an inch. I was always measured at 5'7 or a little taller but now am 5'6 or a little under! It wrecked my goal weights too so I understand the sadness of the BMI chart change, but try not to let it bother you too much. You are the same height you were a week ago and you don't feel any different physically, right? We just lose cartilage and bone mass and our bones compress with gravity as we age.

I just went to the doctor and they had me at 5'7 1/2...but I'm pretty sure I wasn't standing very straight and the last time I was measured was about a year ago and I was 5'9. I think it just depends on who is doing the measuring.

I'm 25. I have been thinking for years that I was 5'8". If I came in at 5'7", I would be like okay, error. I don't feel any different than I have felt for years. I wonder if it might be the fact that in the mornings you stand taller and after back breaking work, you may slouch more? This was after a full shift for me. Since I didn't hit goal, I'll have to redo this in a few months. They'll remeasure then and maybe that day I will be taller.

Now, I'll have to work on making my HDL rise before then maybe.

Is this a mandatory thing? I would throw a fit if they were going to weigh and measure me at work, let alone blood work. That's between me and my doctor!

Daimere,

You've lost 70 pounds??

Forget their scales --- forget their mangled height measurements --- you are rocking this! Climb up on this float and enjoy your ticker tape parade (don't forget the beauty pageant wave to your adoring crowds). With your obvious good habits and hard work, this teeny setback doesn't even rate as a minor blip.

No. But I set a vitality goal and I only get points if it's verified by a doctor/nurse. There is also paper work that I could take to my doctor to get them to fill it out.

I've only lost 31 pounds in the last year.

HDL is a tough one to fix. Mine is in the 30s. Good luck with it. To your credit, your LDL is very low. I think the ratio matters most so don't fret too much! Fish oil may help a little.

Most of the googling doesn't really answer what will raise my HDL. I already eat fibrous veggies, I've been losing weight, I should be good on omega 3 since I try to add chia seeds to everything, etc etc etc. I am actually hoping that in December my HDL was really low and it's raised a bit since then. Since I don't know those values, I have no clue. I really hope that maybe it's raised and I just don't know about it.
