Hello and welcome! I have to agree with those who have said 100 pounds in 6 months is not realistic. In fact, it is likely dangerous. The first ones will probably fall off really quickly but then when the plateaus start it can be discouraging. I wish you all the best; just don't want to see you set yourself up for what you will perceive as failure when in fact it can be very successful.

I think 100 pounds in 6 months is very optimistic. But I think 100 pounds in 10 months is perfectly doable. I won't say if it isn't healthy because I don't know enough about what you're eating and how active you are. If you shoot for 1% of you body weight per week lost, you will be at your goal in about 35 weeks. I think this is an attainable goal. It worked for me. To see it laid out was very encouraging - I made a spread sheet with my actual weight at the top of the column and then put the Wednesday dates down a column. I put in a formula that made each week's goal 99% of the week before. It was good to see if I was keeping pace with what I wanted to do. Some weeks were better than others - for no apparent reason - but overall, I was able to maintain that rate of loss. Some people go for small changes, other jump in with both feet right off the bat. You've set a great goal - keep us posted as to how you're doing.

Lin

Oh, yeah - welcome to the forum and good luck with this.

I do agree with the others that 6 months or even a year isn't a realistic about to time to lose what you need, in a healthy way. Putting dates for achieving our goals can sometimes discourage us if we don't hit them. As long as you eat healthy, excerise, and stick with it, the weight will come off. 1-2 pounds of weightloss a week is a healthy amount to shoot for but starting out, you will prob lose more then that. When it slows don't, don't get discouraged.

You need to figure out how many calories you need to be eating to lose weight. Theres a calorie calculater here: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-goal.php that should give you a general idea. Make sure to adjust your calorie amount as you keep losing.

Pictures and measurements, and trying on clothes that were what you wore at your highest weight are great ways to keep track of your progress if your getting a little frustrated. It won't be as noticable at first but the more you lose, the smaller about of weightloss it takes, to see a difference...
It took me 4 years to shead 170 pounds, with plenty of breaks in that time frame of maintaining until my modivation kicked in again. Be persistant. Because you got this.

OH excerise...make sure you SWEAT...get that heart pumping. Mix up what your doing and when something becomes easy, make it more challenging. Excerise goals are a great way to keep you sticking with it...

I'm trying to lose the same amount in the same amount of time. It does sound unhealthy, but the way I see it, is just do what you can and see what happens. If you lose 75 lbs are you going to be devastated? NO! And neither will I. Good luck!

OP: Everyone always say what is "realistic " time to lose weight! But everyone body is different. What is good for you does not mean it will be good for someone else; just because you may lose weight slow; does not mean the next person will lose it slow.

If I can lose 30 pounds from Oct1 to Nov19th ; Oh you can do it!
I have lost a total of 80 pounds since June 2012

NO; i did not have surgery; no Special diet, No pills and No fasting!
It's called work your AZZ off in the gym and cut out fast food and junk food! However, don't forget to rest! smile

Why there are women and men who do all these special things to lose weight;I think it is great it works for you! Keep up the good work!

I say stay with your 6 month goal and whatever you lose you will be happy!
And if you do lose that 100 pounds in 6months! You can come back later at this post and Smile away!

You can do it! Keep those goals coming!

Do not take my message to heart!

I've been gone for awhile but wanted to update my status. I finally joined a program in November of 2013 and am proud to say I am -78 pounds as of today. I still want to lose the 100 lbs and feel I am going to reach this goal. It took me another year to figure out what I needed to do but am happy I finally did.

So glad to see you back!! And even more so to see you have made progress!

It's funny because I see people on this site all the time that give themselves the goal of losing 100lbs in x amount of time. I think - sure, maybe they will do it, great! But I also think - just start, lose 25 lbs. Feel that for a while and see where you are. Then lose another 25lbs. By the time you get to 75, you already feel like a new person. You didn't do it in 6 months - neither did I. But we did it. And we feel better. Looking back in these old threads, it is a little time capsule and for me, reminds me that the time will pass anyway. I am SO GLAD that it has brought you to a healthier self. You'll finish it - I'm sure of it. Or maybe you'll get to 90 and maintain that. (I feel sometimes like the 100 mark is kind of arbitrary.) Regardless, you are already there! You've already changed your life and achieved so much. Celebrate you and what you've done - and then keep being healthy and see where that puts the scale.

Hi Texas and welcome! Great to hear you took that first step and made the decision. 100lb loss is not easy, but can be achieved. I have the same goals as you, but have given myself a year to do it. Six months is aggressive. Just remember to celebrate the mini-goals and recover from any mini-setbacks you might come across. You CAN do this
