Beverly Joy are you having your surgery performed laproscopically or are they doing the incision? They were able to perform mine laproscopically but they couldn't tell me for sure before surgery so I had no clue what I was waking up too.

SmallSteps... my surgeon is planning on a laproscopic surgery. Unless some comes up that would warrent the change. I hope it works out with the lapriscope..

Thanks, again, to everyone for sharing your experiences and thoughts... plus wishing me well & sending prayers. I appreciate it all greatly.

You will 100% feel better after your surgery!

I had my gallbladder out in August 2003 and gained a little weight after, however that was also before I started a healthier lifestyle. Like a few others have mentioned, the weight gain was due to finally being able to anything I wanted! Pre-surgery, I had stayed away from foods that had more than 6g of fat per meal time. After I had the surgery, I stayed with bland foods for the first week (because I was sore and not hungry), but was able to eat more and more as I healed. Additionally, I found that after I came home, it was more comfortable to sleep sitting up!

My sister, on the other hand, went out for Chinese food the day she had her surgery.

Beverly,
I have not had any experience with gall bladder surgery so I really can't speak to this but I want to let you know that I will be praying for you. Also, since you are so determined, I am sure that you will manage your weight through this process.

Everybody I know who had it done has had "dumping syndrome" afterwards, sometimes up to a year or more. If you eat something fatty you may suddenly be overcome with the need to get to the toilet IMMEDIATELY and I am not kidding. Just be aware that this can happen cause somehow the docs always neglect to warn you about it. I had mine out 22 years ago and it occasionally still happens to me and if I eat something really fatty like a donut I will have the worst heartburn ever, so I don't eat them any more. Good luck with your surgery! As for the weight gain I lost afterwards, at a minimum you are missing an organ, that weighs something LOL
