Default Winter, cold hungry and gaining

I'm a calorie counter and I'm finding it quite challenging to stay at my 1,400 calories a day level lately. I generally stick to a fairly low fat/low carb plan as that is what has worked for me, lots of vegetables, fruit, chicken, turkey and fish.

The cold weather is just making me hungry and I am especially craving carbs. When I eat more, I gain. I'm going to go chat with my doctor tomorrow, it's frustrating. Suggestions are welcome.

Just for added background, I workout 3x a week with a trainer, cardio and weights. I run 1-2 other days when there isn't snow on the ground.

Jess - just hang in there and try to eat a bit of protein or some veggies or an apple when the carb cravings hit. Plan a few snacks that are low carb throughout the day perhaps in your total calories. You're getting close to a normal weight for your height, so the pounds will come off a bit more slowly, so don't give up. Just hang in there and think how great summer clothes will look if you do stay on plan! Each day - one at a time - you can do this!

Try tracking your protein as well as your calories. Protein is much more filling than carbohydrates, definitely have some with every meal or snack. Are you getting at least 60 to 80 grams of protein every day? That might help with your hunger.

Thanks Lin and Jen. I eat a ton of protein like 134 grams on a normal day. I eat vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, turkey and eggbeaters for the most part.

I do forget to eat snacks, that is a good suggestion.
