100 pounds gone!

If my posts seem a little smug today please forgive me! It's because I've reached the closest thing I ever had to a goal - as of today I've lost 100 pounds. I'm feeling pretty good about it!

If you're wondering, it's taken me two years to reach this milestone. Yep - two years. That averages out to about a pound a week. I learned a lot about patience and long-term thinking. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I tend to be the sort of person who gives advice, rather than seeking support. I haven't poured my heart out much here during the times of doubt and frustration, but rest assured I have had them. I have had temper tantrums and complained that it wasn't fair. I have wanted to throw the scale out the window. I have overeaten and binged. But with patience and consistency - getting right back on the horse after those times of weak resolve - I've managed to make this happen.

You can too.

I still have a bit left to go - I'm really don't know how much, but I'll say 25 pounds or so. It might take me another 6 months or another year to get there, wherever "there" is. Still, I feel like a new person - I can say I have felt that way since I hit 85 pounds gone or so, and it's a really great feeling.

Like anyone else who's done this, I can go on for hours about what worked for me, how I did it, what kinds of mental games I played with myself, etc. But that's pretty much what the rest of my posts here are about. So I'll shut up now, and just say this: thanks to every member of this community for support, ideas, advice, data, and everything else you offer. This community has helped keep me focused and interested in this massive two-year renovation project.

Thank you!

You did it all EXACTLY right! Great job. Be proud. I hear no smugness at all. You deserve to be proud and happy with what you've done.

carter 08-24-2011 10:11 AM

Thanks folks, you are all very kind.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of patience to my process. (Yesterday I almost lost my temper here at someone with far, far less to lose than I have, complaining about only losing a pound a week. I restrained myself.)

Patience is what has allowed me to have a balanced life and eat healthy most of the time without having to give up occasional celebrations, indulgences, dirty martinis, and so on. I can include these things in my plan now and again because I know it's not the end of the world if I don't see a huge loss every single week. It's what allowed me to say "nah, not today - maybe next time" to most of those very tempting eating opportunities that we are all faced with all the time.

My way probably won't work for everyone but it's hard not to be evangelical about it when it has worked so well for me. :) I've done the flawless-execution, 100% focus, lose-10-pounds-a-month thing in the past, and I've always fallen off the wagon after 30 or 40 pounds of loss, and gained it all back with interest. This time, I didn't.

Emme 08-24-2011 10:19 AM

Yay!!! :cheer: You rock!!

Matilda08 08-24-2011 11:14 AM

WTG carter Im so happy for you!!!!!!!!!!

Slimmer Down Now 08-24-2011 12:23 PM

Wow! I'm new here... and reading your post is absolutely inspiring! I am starting this journey with the mindset that I've got to be happy with the small losses - because they ADD UP! People so often get discouraged because they only lost a pound or two... but those add up to 100!!

GOOD FOR YOU!! Don't appologize for smugness (which you weren't btw), but ENJOY YOUR MOMENT!! Now I need to look at your other posts to see what your plan was!! :) CONGRATS! :carrot:

Curvaliscious 08-24-2011 09:58 PM

WooHoo!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! So exciting!

I too am losing approx. 1 pnd/week and it is such a slow process, but it works for me. SO happy to see someone else who has done something similar, stuck with it and been successful. Now, where are the pictures?! :)

Madame Souza 08-24-2011 10:06 PM

Congratulations carter,
I am ashamed of myself. I just completed around 3 months and i have started doubting my plan. Till now i am doing all proper things.
I will have to hang on another 9 months i guess as i have
Two 1 month vacation planned.
But, can you be little more elaborate a nd tell us what did you observe
What worked for you and which carbs did you have. Etc ...whatever you think will help.
God bless you.

Dumplin 08-25-2011 06:32 PM

That is a BIG DEAL ! Congtats ! Wonderful Job !
