Our giant baby! It was a very long and harrowing journey at the end. We had hoped that her birth would be just us, our midwife and a bathtub. It couldn't have been more opposite.
Long story short - 32 hours of labour -2 spinals- endless IV's - every intervention I never wanted and an emergency c-section to top it all off.

It turned out that she had a knot in her cord, her cord was wrapped all around her, she was over 10 pounds...AND, she had her arm up over her head! (Called a compound presentation).
We would most certainly both have died had we been alone or not had medical intervention, so I'm incredibly grateful.
It's been hard dealing with the trauma, but we are so incredibly, OVERJOYED!!! She's an amazingly easy baby, so sweet and sleepy.

Anyway, just thought you'd like to know she's here!

OH, and the bonus! I lost 15 pounds during the pregnancy, and today at 12 days after birth, I'm 42 pounds LESS than when I got pregnant!!! It's my biggest loss ever. I've only made it to 40 pounds in the past!

  • Aw, she's adorable! So precious. Glad you're both doing alright despite what sounds like an insanely traumatic birth. Congrats on the new baby and on the weight loss!
  • Awwww, she's beautiful!

I'm sorry about the traumatic birth - I hope you heal up quickly, both physically and emotionally. Having a beautiful little thing like that to snuggle should help
  • Aww! She is just gorgeous! Congratulations on the baby AND the weight loss!
  • She is precious! Congrats!!!
  • Wow. So sorry to hear about all the trauma involved. I'm happily childfree, but I just can not even imagine such a thing. My mom had a c section with me because my cord was choking me, I was born blue.

My sister was a c section too, not sure why. You sound happy though, that's great. My mom had really REALLY bad like, psychotic post partum after both of us.

I have a friend on facebook who is anti c section in almost all cases, and she's always posting about how it's not really needed like 99% of the time and how you should insist on doing it 'your way' ...which it sounds like you tried but sometimes medical intervention is necessary. Wishing you a good recovery and some sleep.
  • Wow, ten pounds! She is a cutie though. Congrats on your beautiful baby girl and the weight loss!
  • She's so beautiful and I love her name! Congratulations!

Take your time recovering - I've gone the emergency C-section route and it takes longer to recover than it does for a planned section (I've had 2 planned after the first). You did labor and surgery!
  • She is beautiful ! Congratulations !
  • CONGRATULATIONS!!

She is beautiful. I am so, so glad you are both doing OK now.

    (wonderful weightloss, too)
  • So cute. And so jealous, Cal is a month old and I'm only down 25.
