Anything else you would like to share with us: if i can do this anyone can!

GOAL WEIGHT: 160

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM IN WEIGHT LOSS: Will power and determination, I'm too easy on myself.

FOLLOWING ANY SPECIFIC PLAN: Dr. Poon's Metabolic Diet

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS TIME THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL: I've just made a major life change and feel motivated to make more big changes in my life; I'm recently separated, now I want to be fit and healthy and change my life even further. I'm turning 40 this October and hope to be a lot healthier by then. In December we are going to Disney and I want to make sure I can fit on the rides!!

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT YOU? I'm fairly liberal and have lots of enthusiasm - it can be a bit much actually; be sure to let me know when it hits the annoying point

WHAT EXPERIENCES CAN YOU SHARE: I do best when I lose a good deal of weight quickly in the beginning; that seems to get me in the right frame of mind to commit to a food plan and exercise.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: There are several things. I am logging, and checking in here, to keep me honest. I actually log twice, on Spark-people, then post here on the “7 day” tracking board. Also, this time I have gotten back on plan IMMEDIATELY after a lapse. Before I would just figure I'd blown it. I attribute this to this site

Anything else you would like to share with us: I live a stressful life- primary support of disabled adult son and health challenged son, stressful job, and am finding that this board is incredible support to me in doing the things for myself that are good for us all. My family is grateful I found this board and am sticking to the changes.(if Mamma ain't happy ain't Nobody happy, lol!)

Present Weight:

Goal Weight: 175

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weight loss: Not making excuses

Following any specific plan: Linking carbs/protein; tracking daily calories; exercising 4-6 times a week, both cardio & weight training

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I was always overweight, from puberty. All through middle school & high school, and beyond. About 9 years ago, I went on a weight loss journey and lost 110lbs in a year. I was thrilled! I even maintained my weight loss for 3 years. I then met my husband, got married, built a new house, and got pregnant, all within 18 months. I gained almost everything back with my pregnancy, and then never lost it. I knew I should lose the weight, but the fear of succeeding and then 'ruining' my body with another pregnancy kept me from getting serious. Now my 2nd (and last!) baby is a year old, and I'm DONE being fat. I want to be healthy again - it felt SO good. I got serious at the beginning of May, and I'm almost at my first 50lbs lost (just 6 more to go!)

Anything else you would like to share with us:
I tell myself that I want to run a 5K, but I really don't necessarily enjoy the outdoors (I blame allergies!), and I especially am not fond of exercising outdoors. So why I've made that my goal, I'll never know!

Hobbies/Interests: gaming (WOW/MMOs), the gym (newer), picking on my fiancé (it’s good for him!), reading, watching movies, going to the dog park, eating out

Height: 5’7

Eye/Hair Color: brown/hazel

Starting Date of Weight loss Journey: 2/1/2010 (this time)

Starting Weight: 310

Present Weight: 269

Goal Weight: 155 (or tbd as my Dr thinks I should aim more for 130-140)

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weight loss: eating out, bored eating, snacking, portion control, will power, my lazy.

Following any specific plan: Sparkpeople.com (tracking calories and exercise), blog like a mad person on LiveJournal (username: Tsuni_Night), maintain an active support/motivation system such as 3FC, 100pounds2lose (LJ), friends, family, etcetera.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past:
Working on my attitude! Remind myself of my goals. Remind myself that every single small victory is a victory, and it will help me get to my final goal. Positivity, Positivity, Positivity! I tend to be a negative person. In the past I always said I HATED working out. But why is that? It gives me so many benefits. I feel better, sleep better, can do more, etcetera. So I needed to stop trying to self sabotage myself by staying untrue things such as I hate exercise. The reality is I like the benefits from working out, and there are a lot of them. I am lazy, and I don’t like sweating are super pitiful excuses for not doing it.

I am also not dieting this time around I am changing my lifestyle. I mean yeah I am eating enough fewer calories that I’m losing weight, but I’m doing so in a way that will allow me to maintain this for the rest of my life. Nothing is banned, I have 1 cheat day a week so that I can still have Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Cheese dip, Cake, whatever. Screwups are temporary setbacks or mistakes, not the end of the process. Life happens, mistakes happen, it will probably not be my last mistake, and that’s okay. I just need to keep going, and keep reminding myself why I’m doing this, and why I will succeed. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, as long as I keep moving toward the goal regardless of speed.

Anything else you would like to share with us:
When I started the following internal conversation was something I had on a daily basis. I still struggle with my The Lazy, but the more I stick to it the easier everything gets. I have a heckova long way to go, but I will get there, in time.

I have conversations with the part of myself that doesn't have any motivation or desire to change for the better. I like to call it The Lazy.
They go something like this:
Start exercise:
The Lazy: Wait… what are you doing!? Why are you doing this?!
Brain: I need too. It’s good for me
The Lazy: The {bleep} you say! This hurts, stop this at once you dumb cow, are you trying to kill yourself?!
Brain: Yeah, see I aiming to remove the cow portion of this statement
The Lazy: WTFBBQ FINE, I’M PROTESTING. It hurts.. see!!!! [start the leg/arm muscles burning]. You need to stop this at once! I’m tired and want to rest. I don’t like sweating. Doesn’t that couch look nice? Why don’t you just take the day off and come back tomorrow? How about just doing 5 minutes instead of 30-50? 30 sucks & 50 is WAY too much. I know, how about a nice soothing video game? Really, I mean it STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPP!
Brain: I need to keep going. I can work through this… that couch does look comfy… OOOH I just need 10 more points in crafting to...NO! I will do this. I need to.
The Lazy: This isn’t fair! I don’t wanna…. You’re ignoring me… fine, fine… This is the worst plan ever, but I give up, you’re intent on torturing yourself so be it. I’ll tell you I told you so later!
Brain: Pedal.. keep moving… only [x] minutes left to go. Keep your speed at 16 mph. You can do it.

One of my favorite quotes is from Alice in Alice in Wonderland:
“Good advice. If I listened earlier, I wouldn't be here. But that's just the trouble with me. I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.”

The entire quote completely applies to me. I’m trying to cure the very seldom follow it part.

I’m a work in progress. I will always be a work in progress. I’m okay with that.

Starting Weight: 237.9

Present Weight: 233

Goal Weight: 140

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss:
I've lived in many different countries, which has made for a very hectic lifestyle. I have been dining out, and splurging instead of planning, and eating when I should be. Hurdles include meal preparation and organization, junk food obsession, skipping meals, and exercise motivation. Portion control, and emotional overeating are also hurdles to overcome.
Following any specific plan: I just started on weight watchers point system. Learning new recipes and counting calories/points to meet my goals.

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: Determined to lose weight for my health. Want to continue travelling, and living life to the full as I have been, just as a smaller, and healthier person.

Anything else you would like to share with us: Glad to be here. The support is key I believe!

First name: Meaghan

Geographical location: Raleigh, NC

Age: 21

Marital Status: Single; been in a monogamous relationship for 11 months

Children/Ages: None and don't plan to have any

Occupation: Student/part-time at Office Depot; graduating in December and looking for full-time positions in publishing/writing

Pets: All of my pets live with my parents. My mom has two dogs and a cat and my dad has one dog. One of the dogs who lives with my mom is actually mine, and he is in my profile pic. His name is Jasper. I hope when I graduate in December and move to a new place that I will be able to have him with me.

Hobbies/Interests: Writing, reading, watching movies, listening to music, watching TV, hanging out with my boyfriend and friends, NCSU football and basketball, crocheting, etc.

Height: 5'2"

Eye/Hair Color: Brown

Starting Date of Weightloss Journey: Technically, August 16, 2010. But I promptly fell off the wagon. I started back today, September 13, 2010, and did okay. I'm one of those who starts and stops a lot, but I hope to permanently start this time.

Starting Weight: 252.2lbs

Present Weight: same

Goal Weight: 150lbs

Biggest hurdle to overcome in weightloss: (1) I am ridiculously busy right now and that makes it easier to make excuses to eat crap and not go to the gym
(2) I am a really picky eater and have a major sweet tooth. I am always craving desserts, and I don't enjoy eating any veggies at all.

Following any specific plan: Just my own. I've been on and off this train for like 10 years now, so I feel like I know everything there is to know about dieting and exercising. Now if I could only follow it...

What is different this time in your weight loss efforts than in the past: I don't know. I guess that's the problem. I've never joined any kind of support group/system before in the past, for one thing. Going to this forum somehow makes me more committed. Also, I really love my boyfriend and want to look the best I can for him and for myself. And I'm going out into the "real world" in three months, so I would like to get this started now, so I can just keep it going when that time comes.

Anything else you would like to share with us: I've been over at the 20-somethings group, and I will probably still go back and forth between that one and this one, but I just didn't feel like there were enough people my size over there. A lot of the topics are more relative to my age bracket but there are people who already weigh what I want to eventually weigh and still trying to lose, and that just gets annoying sometimes. I want to see about people who are more in the same boat as me, weight-wise.
