does hcg work?

  • has any one ever tried it ? is it safe? i heard from a friend of a friend that her cousin used it and lost a ridiculous amount of weight but is this healthy?
  • No, and it's really dangerous. The 3FC website does not support any use of HCG for weight loss. It is not FDA approved for this purpose, and the "diet" sets calories way too low. This link will give you some information:

HCG is a hormone, and it is a banned substance for baseball players and probably other athletes as well.

  • Am I getting it confused, or is it the hormone we produce when we are pregnant? If so, I used it during fertility treatments and it made me crave foods like I was already pregnant.
  • It's the same hormone.
  • I used it for a while earlier this summer. It takes a lot of will power, especially if eating is a habit for you. I wasn't hungry AT ALL on it, though.
The weight I lost on it hasn't come back at all, even though I'm eating the same as I did before the diet. I didn't do the whole thing but I plan to start again because a friend of mine lost nearly 80lbs earlier this year. Maybe you could talk to your doctor or find a clinic?
  • A girl I work with, and her mother are doing it. They have dropped lots of weight and inches. But there are down sides. Like very few calories and losing muscle tone. I also don't think that this is sustainable.
  • I would get HCG injections to make my body ovulate during fertility treatments. I personally don't believe in taking hormones unless its medically necessary. I don't think there have been any long term studies on the effects of using this long term. Just like Phen-Phen etc.
I also don't believe that using most supplements and certain foods (like nutri-system) really teaches you to deal with the emotional reasons you are overweight...and everyone has them.
    Just my opinion though.
  • HCG Plans are not supported by 3FC. Which is a pretty good indicator, in my humble opinion, of their credibility.
