Exclamation Tales Of The Scale

Okay. cfmamma pm me on wanted to know..so I thought I share it here for others to give some insight.

I have a old fashion doctors scale with dial sliding block. Back in Feb 2010, I was at 350 and when I weighed which its on a light,thin carpet that weighs me less.Currently at 318.

So, when I carried the scale to the kitchen, no carpet, it weighs me more of slightly over 400...about 80 Lbs difference.

My weight is more on my tummy area. I asked my sister if I look over 300 Lbs or 400 and one of my sisters says 300. So I am going on the light carpet that weighs me less. It builds my motivation up!

wow that's nuts! And here I was pissed my digital wavers a pound dependent on how I wiggle my toe! I do, however, keep it on tile as I heard carpet messes things up. I also have to have it pointing south or I gain :P Why are scales so wishy washy? Argh!

You should never weigh yourself on carpet as you can never get an accurate reading and will always weigh you less. Honestly, I'd go with the over 400 reading on a flat hard surface.
You can't out-exercise poor eating habits.

That's a huge difference. I'd be frustrated too. I'd go with the hard floor surface, definitely, but also maybe a different scale. Have you been weighed at the doctor's office at all recently?

I know it's easier said than done, but I'd suggest looking at whatever number you decide to use as a guide, to keep a gauge if you're on the right track with your efforts.

not too long after I started my weight loss efforts, I remember changing from a spring scale to a digital, my weight went up by 9 lbs, and it threw me into real tizzy. in reality I hadn't changed anything with what size I was or how much weight I had to lose, it was all a mental thing.

I would go to the doctor and get an official, accurate weight. They won't charge you to just walk in and be weighed.
Lost 103 pounds, regained 80+, taking it off again.

I'm with Lyn on this one. That's a HUGE difference, and the doctor's scale will have been calibrated more recently than yours. Best to have a different benchmark to help you out.

Liliann...please don't get too discouraged!

Did you remember to recalibrate your scale after you moved it? I agree that a hard floor is going to give you the most accurate results all other things being equal, but when you move your scale you do need to recalibrate!! That is such a weight discrepancy, I am willing to bet that honestly, your correct weight is somewhere inbetween. I think it's worth it to be sure it's calibrated properly on the hard floor and then keep it there. Better to deal with the surprise now than get a huge shock at the doctor's office or whatever!

Thank you ladies...I am giving up on the scale and will and planning on seeing a new medical doctor and hoping on settling this scale dilmemma. The scale just makes me more down and just focus on other elements than the numbers. Again, Thanks for all your input.

Lilian~Big hugs to you. You have done so well! Losing 27 pounds, no matter what your start weight is, is no small acheivement!
I applaud you for your willingness and fortitude to stick with it even with the possible change in start weight.

You posted the other night that you felt very alone and frustrated....I wanted to extend my hand in friendship to you and to let you know, you really do have friends here. As long as there is 3FC, you won't have to go this alone.

the scale at the doctors is on a light carpeted floor too so I dunno. Try putting a 5 pound weight on it so see what it says. I have no idea how you calibrate those things, I've always wanted one. I think they're kinda cool.

I went to walmart today and all their weight watcher scales were on sale for 10 bucks. Almost got one but didn't I'll just keep back talking mine.

btw you don't look like the higher number to me but rather the lower.
