HI Travis!!
Welcome :)

Maybe you can send us what you eat and we can help with some suggestions. Sometimes we need a little shake up in our food.

hiw much water??? and are you now just shifting?? muscle weighs more than fat and if you are strength training then you will see muscle gain while losing the fat if that is the case you wil not see the scale move but see small things like the pants fittingbetter or looser your cheek thinning out and more definition in the arms or calves. muscle is 5 times more dense that fat so when you fgain muscle you will gain weight. it is not uncommon to do that even up to 10 lbs. i for one am a great exapmle of that i droped much weight i was 235 lbs with 90 lean mass and 145 fat i now am 180 some thing with about 125 lean mass with 55 lean mass. so to understand that is good by body fat % droped from 60 to 30% if ui had not gained that muscle i would be close to gaol. but i am so much healthir with the muscle pluss it has helped to increase my metabolism

Hi Travis

Welcome!!
I was thinking maybe you arent getting enough calories. A man needs more calories than women do to begin with due to a higher percentage of muscle than we have. Then you are also doing a lot of working out. If you really are only eating 1800 a day your body needs much more than this to keep it going and its almost in starvation mode. I would check out www.room42.com they have a basal metabolism calculator on the bottom of the page you can click on to get the amount of calories your body needs just to keep it moving each day. Even if you did nothing but lay on the couch all day your body has to have the "basal metabolism" needs met to keep it running.
(heart beating, lungs breathing, etc..) Your basal needs may be 2200 or 2400 a day. If you are only getting 1800 your body is feeling like it's not getting enough and its slowing your metabolism down until the calories increase. Just my opinion, but I would look into it.

Also what nasus said makes sense too. If your measurements are getting smaller even though the scale isnt budging like you want, you could be gaining muscle and losing fat and the scale seems like its going nowhere but you are actually making progress!

good luck and let us know how it goes!

laura
PS-congrats on losing the 33!!

greatgoing, travis. and welcome.. and yes, there's lots of wisdom and wit around here.

and i have acomment as well. not sure if it's wise, though..

that breakfast: ya might need some protein. try cottage cheese, an egg or egg beaters, or kashi go lean cereal [high protein, high fiber, low fat], or add some protein powder to your oatmeal or have a protein shake..

and perhaps most important, post a lot. it helps. we all need this sort of thing to keep us going, and to keep us on track.

Welcome!!!! Congrats to you for the weightloss! It's a long road...but you can make it!!!

SuchAPrettyFace 09-23-2002 12:26 PM

You have my doggy avatar, hahahahahaha!

Congrats on the 33.

Jiffypop is right--protein in the am will help you feel full for longer. Also, your breads, are they whole/multi grains? Those'll help you feel full longer too. Also, will I get killed to say you need at least 2 servings of fat a day? Don't go crazy on me now--that is really only 1 tablespoon of Parkay Light on your 'tato or rice along w/your almond snack.

Good luck!!!

I agree about the proteins in the morning, too!

Travis, you're doing great!!! I agree with all that's been said before and wanted to encourage you NOT to stop the exercising, especially that weight lifting. Even if the extra muscle might seem to slow you down, it's actually raising your metabolism and will ultimately help you burn more fat! Your time-line sounds really good, too -- not trying to lose too much too fast!

Good luck!

Hi All
I took the advice and added a protein shake
in the morning and one in the afternoon
That took me up to about 2200 calories
and seems to have helped.
I lost another 2 lbs
thanks for the advice, please send more tips and support

lorelei1 09-27-2002 06:39 PM

I knew it! I knew it!
Good for you! :D
I remember reading your post thinking "this dude is starving himself!" Now you are getting some more calories and they are protein-awesome. Protein makes you feel satisfied. Now I just have to follow my own advice and I'd be doing great!
let us know how it goes-keep in touch!
