Default question re: pants length

So is there really a dramatic difference in pants LENGTH when you lose? I have fairly long legs for my height so pants length has always been an issue for me and while I'm not quite tall enough for talls, I've sometimes had to get them or look for specific brands that run long.

This morning, since I'm working from home, I put on a pair of lightweight cotton knit pants that I usually wear as work out clothes at home because they have always been too short. And the length was perfect!!! Because of being thick waisted but small in the butt and thighs, I have mostly knits with elastic waists, and while I've noticed things getting looser, it hadn't really hit home that everything was too long too. But since I'm use to these being too short, it really was noticeable how much longer they are on me now.

I'm pretty sure my legs aren't getting shorter!

There has been a big difference for me! I'm fairly tall too and generally don't dry any pair of pants. I have to hunt to find the lenghth I need so don't want any shrinkage. But the other day I had the same experience - a pair of my workout pants got dried (waaaaah) and I put them on knowing they'd be too short and they weren't! Yay!!

LOL! So you don't even mean general trend in shopping that you feel like smaller sizes are longer? You mean that you yourself seem to have shrunk in length. LOL! That's funny. And yes, I have noticed it a bit. I think it's because they ride up less on the hips and thighs, dropping them to the ankle better.

I do think designers think that the thinner you are, the shorter you are and that the fatter you are, you must be tall. In "normal" sizes, regular length fits me fine and petite is too short. In plus sizes, I have to have petite or they are THREE inches too long, no lie.

Definitely!! I think it's because our pants ride lower on the waist as we lose. What happens to me is that I think pants still fit because they're are not falling off the waist-- but then I notice that the crotch comes down to my knees.

I find my pants hang better as I lose weight. Since they aren't bunching up at my fat, they hang longer. Some pants that aren't long enough now, I am holding onto, b/c I know as I lose, they will eventually fit at some point along the way.

I have a heck of a time with length of clothes! I am excited that they are making shirts longer now!

I have a hard time with pants lengths, and (with a few exceptions) nearly always go with long/tall. My partner is 6'3" and we have the same inseam! I do notice that pants let down a little as they become bigger/I become smaller.

Seriously! It's crazy when a person with a short torso like mine can't fit a shirt!

I'm a petite normally. I have had to re-hem almost all of my pants. I attribute it to the fact taht my butt is no longer as much of a ledge as it once was lol

Yep, first thing I noticed on this weight loss journey was having to re-hem my pants even before they were visually too big.

I'm hoping it gets easier to find pants that are the right length as I go along. As an apple shape, my hips/butt/legs are small compared to the rest of my body, but most jeans seem to be made for curvier ladies... This causes a lot of extra hanging on me. Petite are too short, average are too long. It's very frustrating!

interesting-- because I'm 5'8" too, and visually, I think I look long-legged, at least, I've always been told that, but I don't wear a long.

Right now, the jeans that fit me best are a pair of 14W petites-- W to give me a little extra tummy room, but petite because I'm barely a W anymore.

I buy mine in the JR's department. I'm also apple, ALL belly. 36" inseam. The jr sizes keep the pants from riding up my belly and down my butt. Nothing like showing a bit of butt crack in church :| I have noticed my capris and jeans seem longer, and I know it's because they're more likely to ride where they're supposed to, as opposed to where my fat is forcing them to be.

This must be it ... I've noticed this exact phenomenon before. In fact, when I gained weight, the first thing I noticed is that my pants that normally fit were suddenly "shorter."
