Question From 20 to 8 in 55 pounds???

I got caught up in an infommercial late last night. I was enjoying the inspirational stories and comparing the poundage lost with the clothing size they were in. I forget what the diet was but it was similar in principal to South Beach, but seedy. "Eat whatever you want and lose weight every day."

Anyway, I was feeling like all the inspirational stories and photos were accurate until one woman claimed she lost 55 lbs and went from a size 20 to an 8. I've lost 45 lbs and have gone from a 20 to an almost 14. I highly doubt the next 10 lbs is going to bring me to an 8. Is that even possible?

What do you guys think? (And NO, I'm not considering this diet. )

That seems a little far fetched to me also. I'm in 22's now, and 55 pounds will probably get me to 16's or 18's, I think. I was in 14's at 175 (6 years ago) and that would be 65 pounds.

hmmm.....I started at a solid 24 ( and a couple 26's ) and I've lost almost 90 pounds and I'm in a solid 16 now.

I've lost 50 lbs. and went from a 20 to a loose 16. Another five lbs. isn't going to drop me down to an 8. I suppose if I was uber-toned, I could be maybe a 12. Maybe. But not an 8.

Those infomercials just make me laugh

It is really hard to tell with sizes, because they aren't standard. I am in 14 jeans..a little snug, but ok... so I think it is possible depending on the cut, manufacture etc....oh, and you have to loose more weight to reach a new size with the larger sizes...did that make sense ? I mean there is less of a size difference between an 8 and a 10, than an 18 and a 20 I think.

I think it's possible, maybe a 20 to 12 I could see being more realistic

I think it's possible depending on the body type. I gain weight in my stomach area. When I lose 50 lbs, I will be in a 15-16 and right now I am a 22/24. That person who went down so low possibly could have just lost a large percentage of that 55 lbs in their stomach and thighs thus allowing smaller pant size. You ever see an awkwardly shaped heavy person? Thats because they gain in one area more than another.

Well.... it depends...

Was the 20 a teeny 20 and the 8 a roomy 8?

I think it's very far fetched. I have lost 49lbs, and I have gone from a 24 to a 20. I can button and zip an 18, but there is a little pudge that sticks out. So soon I should be an 18.

i have come to the conclusion that clothing sizes are ALL OVER the place...and really don't coincide at all with a particular weight. for example, right now, i'm a size tight 12 loose 14...i weigh 197 (still...i know). when i weigh 150 (which fashion and Hollywood would consider fat), i am a size 8 and i look and FEEL GOOD. (and i'm only 5' 5.5")...so technically for me, losing 50 lbs would bring me from a 14 to an 8, that's really only 2 sizes. but gosh darn it...i'm going to get into those dang white size 8 jeans i have hanging in my closet come H-E double hockey sticks or highwater!

p.s. when those hollywood "starlets" say they weigh 105 or 110...i think they are full of it sometimes...granted the ones that look like lollipops probably do, but the normal ones, i think are closer to 130-135, that's just an ugly # to them so they make up a tiny one...just MHO. i have NO love for hollywood and their unrealistic expectations of women.

I dont like those things, because they say that people loose all this weight and stuff and they have a huge belly and all the sudden you can see their abs. Then some look like they are holding their breath its crazy!

Well, I know we all lose it differently. I am generally a size larger in pants than the majority of all of you at my same height/weight. But it still seems farfetched. And I know it takes less of a loss to fit smaller sizes the smaller you get (yes Marigrace, it did make sense ) but I still think this is a little out there. Maybe a tight 20 purchased at a place that runs small and tight 8 at a place where sizes run big?

Oh, you should have see this commercial. They did the whole magic mirror thing where fat women spun around and were suddenly thin!! Very funny.

I do believe this diet probably works. It based on a sound concept of making your meals 1/3 protein, 1/3 carb and 1/3 veggie. He did say people could eat whatever they wanted for snacks though, like...um...brownies. That's where it all fell apart for me. Maybe if you held yourself to one, maybe, but who can eat a brownie and then not starve between meals. He clearly doesn't understand most overeaters.

I think it's at least possible. I think around my highest, I was a 22-24 or so. Now just 29 pounds later, I am in 18s and closer to fitting into 16s again for pants, and can wear "regular" size shirts. It's all about what manufacturers have the "right" fit (haha) in a lot of ways for those kinds of claims.
