Just Obese Again

  • Hi guys.

I've been yo-yo-ing since my last visit to 3fc. I wouldn't say that I'm trying again so much as getting more firmly in the saddle. Today my weight puts me once again (and hopefully forever) out of the morbidly obese range and into the just obese range. Just barely, mind you, but I'm there. I need to remember this weight and NEVER, even for special occasions or vacations, NEVER see anything above it again.

I'm not dancing for joy, just quietly happy and ready to move towards "overweight."
  • Congratulations Eumie for losing 26 pounds! That is great.

Can you tell me where to find the information of "morbidly obese" weight vs. "obese"? Is it a web site you use?
  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!

You have such a great attitude. I'm another who's yo-yo'd up and down. (Six months ago I was down to 199... then I've steadily gained 10 lbs a month since then. Not good at all.) So I like your attitude about trying to remember where we are RIGHT NOW. (And at milestones like you have hit.)
  • That's wonderful!
  • Congrats!
  • Congrats!
  • way to go! congrats!
  • Thanks guys!

Volleyballsis--morbidly obese is a BMI of 40 or higher. Today I'm at 39.9. Let's hope I'm there on Tuesday for my official weigh in, too!
  • Congrats on the milestone and your weight loss so far.
  • Thanks for the info Eumie. I've got a ways to go! Interestingly, I went to 2 different sites and got 2 different BMIs, which were 12.6% difference. Anyone noticed that before? The first one, "bmicalculatorforfemales.com" also asked for measurements such as wrist, forearm, neck, hips along with height and weight. My BMI calculated at 53.91% (yikes!). nhlbisupport.com only asked for height / weight at I got 41.3%. I like that one alot better, but I wonder which one is more accurate?

I just use the height/weight one. I don't think BMI is a very good indicator of what's going on in your body, because people with lots of muscle have the same bmi as a person who weighs the same, but has more fat. However, it's nice for landmarks when you know you're losing fat. The doctor I go to only takes BMI from height/weight. Then she takes my body fat percentage (ew!).
  • I am so Happy for you. My big goal at the moment is to get from "obese" to "overweight." When I cross that boundary I will be dancing in the street. It's just about 14 pounds away, but I can't seem to kick-start my diet again. Like a lot of other folks, I have stalled. But since the good weather has started again, I can put exercise back in the mix.
