The Thin Commandments

  • I was just reading an article about the plan on Web MD.

    The Commandments in a Nutshell

    1. Strategy is stronger than willpower.
    2. Think historically, not just "calorically."
    3. The problem may be in the food, not you.
    4. Structure gives control.
    5. Separate mood from food.
    6. Take control of your favorite foods.
    7. Slips should teach you, not defeat you.
    8. Stop feeling deprived.
    9. Treat your calories like dollars.
    10. Losing weight is half the job. Keeping if off is the other half.

    Thoughts? Opinions?
  • I think they are good suggestions. I really agree with the losing it is half the battle.
  • Wow, this is very cool. Alot of thought went into this.
  • This book is one I go back and read again when I need a boost, as the point of looking at personal history with trigger foods rang very, very true for me.
  • I reckon I will get the book then, thanks
  • I am contemplating buying this book.

The webmd article said to read the first half of the book and ignore the second half (the diet strategies). After reading some reviews on amazon, I'm inclined to agree.

For those who have this book, what is your advice? Right now I'm happily calorie counting at a number that does not leave me feeling deprived, and I don't plan on doing anything different.

Is the book worth it for the strategies alone? Thanks for any input!

Funny that you would ask this, as I almost included in my original comments that as much as I agreed with the first half of the book, didn't even bother to read the second half.

P.S. I didn't buy the book, got it through inter-library loan.
  • I just found it on Amazon for under 5 bucks with shipping.
  • Thank you so much for your quick responses! Got it for under 5 bucks at amazon too!

Yes, I want all the affirmation/tips/information I can get during this weight loss journey.

Thank you for posting about this book. Amazon allows you to "peek" inside the book and do a search. It is a wonderful book, and I know it will only help me.
  • I'm so going to print that out and put it on my wall for some motivation!

    Thanks heaps x
  • Just a quick note of thank you to those who recommended this book.

    IT IS AWESOME.

I thought I wouldn't like the second "food" part, as I don't care for the "diet", but let me tell you, the tips and recipes are just absolutely wonderful.

I got it in brand new condition for under 5 bucks from amazon. This book is very highly recommended. I especially love what the author says - the truth- that being thin may not make you a happier person, but you'll be happier to shed all that excess weight (paraphrasing; he said it much better). Now THAT'S a reality check.

Thanks again - any other book recommendations will be very much appreciated.
