BUT now comes the dreaded time.............ugh, it's 6pm........by 9pm, I will want that DANG SNACK (you know the ugly messy gooey yummy one). Yes, THAT ONE.

OK - now to know I am aware of it and will get thru it! I have to, it's only day 2!

Here goes nothing...................

Coming here when you're tempted is a great distraction!

Congrats on making it through your first day. It may not sound like much, but there were countless days in the past when I attended to start and just failed.

Keep it up!!

Sorry about your headache. Good for you - getting through the day.

Cravings are hard - somtimes these things help me.

Identify that you have a craving - you want it, but, it's not an emergency

Stand firm - resist that craving

Give yourself no choice - yes, it feels uncomfortable...you think you can't make it through those awful feelings. But, of course, you can!

Imagine how you'll feel if you do eat it - it will taste great for a few moment then you'll feel badly. You don't want that.

Remind yourself why you want to NOT give in to that cravying.

Other things to do:

Drlnk water
Deep breathing to relax - and it will help you get through it.
Distractions - email, phone, take a walk, bubble bath, etc.
Distance yourself from that food.

Sometimes these things help me.

Can you do something else instead of snack? I know when I quit smoking years ago my counselor told me to switch up my routines: drive a different way to work, quit activities that I associated with smoking like drinking coffee or talking on the phone.

I don't know what you are doing when it is 6pm-9pm that's my 'get home from work, start the laundry, start the dinner, eat dinner, do dishes....ahhhh watch tv" time. Maybe you are really hungry...are your calories mostly gone by dinner time? Can you save a few hundred calories for a snack? A whole bag of fat free popcorn with a packet of splenda sprinkled on it is very low calorie...drink a diet 7-up along with it and you'll be so stuffed you can't think! If it's tv watching time that makes you snack, turn off the tv, read a book instead or maybe take up a hand craft. I got into cross stitch when I quit smoking, it kept my hands busy and my mind off of cigarettes.

It gets easier, really!! Keep coming back here and let us know how you are doing!!

I still say go to bed. You have to change your evening routine in some way whether it's going to bed, taking a walk, taking up a project, whatever...just something to change your routine. You're not really hungry, your body is just used to eating at that time. You have to trick it.

You're doing such a great job!

Great!!! I've heard many people mention that having a hot drink helps them feel fuller. Keep it up, you CAN do it! The first week is the hardest. You're getting out all that crap, withdrawing, detoxing, etc.. But man once it's out, the feeling is great. It only takes 3 weeks to create a new habit. Just count down the days you've done, not the days you have left to do. Each day you are one day closer!

Another chick suggested adding something to a jar for each day you are OP. You could try that, too or try it just for avoiding that 9pm snack.
