Default Nutrition question

I have a package of gumbo mix. My husband loves the stuff and I want to make it for him, but I have no idea how much if any I would be comfortable eating myself. There is no nutrition label. It does have an ingredients list, but of course that doesn't list amounts. Does anyone know of a website or something where I could get at least an estimate on the nutrition of this stuff?

Have you tried google the brand of mix? Usually they have a website and hopefully it might have the nutrition info there.

Yep. I would definitely look for the brand, especially because gumbo differs so significantly from one recipe to the next. If you're strictly counting calories, you would need that information. However, the order the ingredients are listed would also provide some help, as they list the ingredients in order, starting with the most prevelant ingredient. (For example, if sugar or its equivalent is listed second, that would be a problem. If it's listed last, it's probably okay. However, since you're probably more worried about fat than sugar, that's less helpful, as fat is really calorie dense).

Unfortunately the brand is a small local thing and when I tried to go to the website listed it isn't there.

I would look up calorie counts for just a general gumbo and go from there. I make it from scratch and as long as I don't use butter/oil to make the roux (I broil whole wheat flour to brown it) it doesn't have a killer amount of calories in it.

My mix (I got it free otherwise wouldn't use it) is not bad in calories. Mine is just a mix of white rice and spices. If you go to using sausage or other fattening meats and adding lots of oil it will go bad quickly. Otherwise, you should be okay.

What are the first three ingred. in yours? BTW, went to school at Harding in Searcy.

First 3 - rice, flour, onion.

I really don't think the stuff is too terrible and I was planning to use chicken and shrimp for the meat. It's just that I am using the body bugg calorie management system and so am counting exact calories.

We found an e-mail address for the people we got it from and are now waiting for a response. I am putting off the making of it until next weekend in order to try to get some info first.

Any chance you'd share a recipe or amounts? I have not tried this yet and man, I miss gumbo.
