I'm not in NY, but hubby is from NY. He says your best bet might be to go through medicaid. It's more difficult since you are in a small town. Does your boyfriend have a car and an off day that he could maybe drive you to a larger place (Albany or Troy maybe - both about 1/2 hour away) that might have free/cheap clinics? Or is there someone else that could take you if he can't?
Hubby googled and found this, maybe it's helpful:
Department of Social Services - they seem to handle medicaid issues
Saratoga County DSS, 152 West High Street,
Ballston Spa, New York 12020, (518) 884-4148
and
NYS Department of Health Regional Office: Capital District Field Office New York State Department of Health One Fulton Street Troy, New York 12180-3298 Phone: (518) 408-5318 Fax: (518) 408-5392
I never had any burning pain, that I can remember. Stabbing pain is a closer description. I was swimming for exercise at the time and moving my shoulder in that way made it hurt a lot more.
A lipoma is a benign fatty tumor, basically, so it's just kind of a build-up of fat under the skin. Nothing really dangerous about it, but it can hurt if it's in a weird place. On your back where you lean a lot without realizing would irritate it for sure.
Are you considered a NYS resident or Tennessee? Sometimes things like that get in the way when dealing with a NY based health insurance company. Personally, I was having stabbing pain in my shoulder blade and it felt like a knot but it just wouldn't go away. I went to the chiropractor and he said it's a muscle spasm wrapped around my nerve and that is what was causing all the pain. I know you're an avid exerciser, so consider something like that a possibility as well as the other suggestions. I hope you feel better
What part of NY are you from? I'm considered downstate in Staten Island.
Creech - I have lived here almost 2 years and I receive my mail here so I would think I would be a NY resident. I am in Upstate NY. This is not a knot but rather a lump, a huge one. We have a list of numbers, thanks to people here and others, that we are calling Monday to try to get me in to see a doctor.

I think you need to get a Driver's License or ID card from NYS to be considered a legal resident. My boyfriend is from Florida and receives mail here but he's still considered a "Floridian" :P
Onderchic, I am a health care provider, and though I certainly can't diagnose over the internet, my first thought, from your description, was lipoma.
Hope you were able to find someone to see you and thank god we're hopefully getting health care reform soon. I take care of a lot of uninsured working people. It seems silly to me that a simple thing like going to the doctor should have to be so complicated!
