Good for you. I have a 2 mile run thanksgiving day and a 5K on Dec 5. I never ran in my life except for the last few days. I will be walking most of it. But I have to start somewhere.. and so do you. Think of it like dieting. We can't be perfect .. but we can be better then yesterday.
I too vote for walk it! I think that because of the way you feel (being out of shape and all) that any amount of exercise will make you feel better than missing this family tradition!
Thanks everyone!! I will definitely come back and let you all know how it went. I'm starting to look forward to it actually. Avoiding things is a big roadblock for me in this whole journey. It really just feeds shame, so i am going to keep putting myself out there.
Charbar good luck on your runs! I was so scared and intimidated on my first run. Me--a runner? It seemed SO ridiculous. I got the biggest shock when I realized how much fun I was having. It's way better than running on the treadmill alone. I have to say runners are the most supportive group of people I have ever met! People cheer you along and sincerely congratulate your efforts.
Once while training on a trail near my home, I had a man in his 70s (in amazing shape) slow down and jog with me my last 2 miles. It really touched me to see a total stranger give support when I was struggling. I really look forward to getting back into shape---I even took the laundry off the treadmill...
Ruby.. I'm so happy that you are going on this run! As Nike says: Just do it!
I'm really scared to death. What if I come in last place - someone has to, right? What if I have a stroke and they have to call 911? My family already thinks I'm nuts (they are all fat) that I'm going to spend time to do this. Normally, I would just do what I think they want... but not this time
