I fell out when I read that! I do the same thing. I knooooooow there's nothing in the fridge NOW that was NOT in there 30 minutes ago, so why do I do it???

To the OP, though, I've never thought about it before, but you might be on to something there...the only time I visit the fridge often (to see if the fairies have left me anything new since the last time I looked) is when I know it's getting low.

I think what did it to me was going through a terrible divorce that left me with very little money. I struggled just to keep a roof over my head, and my refrigerator was extremely bare for many months.

I never went to bed hungry during this time. There was always *something* to eat, but it was a very scary time for me, and just the sight of an emptying refrigerator now must bring me back to those sad, hard days--even though I'm not consciously thinking about it.
