Default does this ever happen to you?

So earlier this week, I was feeling very cranky and lightheaded in the late afternoons.... I decided that maybe I wasn't eating enough calories, so yesterday, because I was really hungry in the am, I decided to eat a little more.

I had toast with peanut butter and banana for breakfast, a hummus pita and miso soup with tofu for lunch, another bowl of miso soup for a snack, and shrimp and scallops with pasta and a wine butter sauce for dinner. The dinner was a little more exciting than what I usually eat, but the serving was small, and I put 2 TBS of butter in the sauce to feed six people, so I figured it wasn't that bad.

At the end of the day, I felt great, but I didn't end up adding up my calories until this morning.

Weirdly enough, when I added up the calories, it came out to less than I'd eaten the two previous days.

I don't know if it was just psychological, because I thought I was eating more, or whether I just didn't have such a hungry day.

I've never done this before, so I can't really speak to that, but I can tell you that I often eat shrimp and scallops--and they are super filling all while being incredibly low in calories. They have tons of protien, but most of the calories you'd get from that kind of meal will be the preparation. Hummus is super filling as well. You ate some really good foods!

When I make my recipe for scallops, it's my most satisfying day, and generally is very low in calories. I just enjoy it so much that I don't feel I need more food.

BTW-what's the recipe for that shrimp and scallop dish? Sounds yummy!

I hadn't thought of the fact that the foods were so filling. You might be right!

Here's the yummy recipe for the shrimp and scallops. It's super easy. Takes five minutes.

1/4 cup white wine
1/4 cup water
1 pound shrimp
1 pound scallops
Juice of one squeezed lime
2 tsp lime zest
2 TBS butter
2 chopped scallions with green part
1 tsp black pepper

Combine water wine butter and lime juice and heat until bubbly and sauce reduces by about half. Spray PAM on a frying pan and sautee the scallions then set aside. Add shrimp and scallops to the sauce and cook for about three minutes. Serve over pasta.

Yum! Do you use sea or bay scallops?

Does your calorie tool allow you to check the proteins/fats/carbs? You might compare the ratios for those two days.

Yum, great recipe. I adore scallops and shrimp and I'm just learning to cook them at home. Thanks!

I used sea scallops. Just bought a big bag of them frozen, but I think you could use either.

Oh, I much prefer sea scallops. So big and tender! And soooo much protein with so few calories. Who knew something so healthy could be so heavenly! I like to sear them for about 1.5 minutes a side in a little bit of olive oil. they melt like butter in your mouth. I get frozen bags from Whole Foods.
