very odd scale behavior... where do you weigh yourself?

I have a taylor digital scale that I bought about a month ago @ Kmart. It has been acting really odd! One time I got on it and it gave me a reading of 40 lbs lighter than the week before!! . Not that I wouldn't love it... but seriously I doubt that it is accurate! I'd say maybe the battery is bad, but supposedly you have to activate the battery (tear a strip off the back) when you first use it.

what gives? I'm going to the Y so I can see something more accurate. Thanks

If it's the one I have I believe it came with directions to make sure it's on a balanced and flat surface.

One way to "reset" it is to get on then get right off- it'll re-zero itself then step on it and stay on for your reading.

I also find if I'm too close to the wall I may not stand perfectly straight and that can make funky results.

I bought one of those digital weight watchers scales and it's soo not accurate at all. I can step on 3 times in a row and get 3 different readings. It can vary as much as 10lbs!!

Be sure the scale is on a hard. level surface. Should not be on carpet. Try and leave it in the same place all the time if you can. I have a Taylor and I do have to move it everyday because my bathroom is literally too small to leave it there all day. I wondered why the weight varied from time to time and reread the instructions., For my model it will always give you the previous reading , first and if you stay on the scale will give you the current reading.

well I think I figured it out

first of all, it's on indoor-outdoor carpet, so that should be good, and it has been there since I bought it.

Also, the battery was a little off whack in it's setting, and when I fixed it, it was better.

It is the same for me, I step on the scale and have gained 50lbs in 24 hours. I know this must be wrong but still to see those numbers, almost fainted. So I step off, and back on and ta da! I weighed only 8lbs! I don't like my scale at home much. I am a PA so we have a good scale at work.

I don't think I could handle scales swinging 40 or 50 pounds on me! It's bad enough with the two/three pounds on my scale.

You ladies are more patient than I. I'd ditch the darn thing and get something with a little less swing. I'm working too hard to play those games with the scale! :)

I had a scale that when the battery died, it stayed on the last weight...for FIVE WEEKS!!! lol my pants were falling off me but i was still 307, i'll remember that number for the rest of my life, i almost gave up!

I weigh in once a week at WW.
At home, I have an old fashioned-type scale.
I hate electronic scales with a passion, because I can get 3 different readings in a row, depending on humidity, way I place my feet, and where I am weighing.
My ideal scale, when I get to maintenance, would be a doctor's office - type balance scale, you know, the type you see at the gym, too, where you have the numbers at eye level and you move the weights around...

My boyfriend and I have had the same problems with our scale at home. I get a bit OCD with it, I weigh myself a tleast 3 times to see what my actual weight is. I have been keeping it in the same spot in the bathroom, but every time I step on it it gives three different readings. I don't really trust digital scales anymore, it once read Dave as 20 pounds lighter from the day before! Try researching an accurate digital scale, it may be a bit costly but well worth the frustration x_x

Glad you solved your problem! I have a WW one and the only time it becomes a spaz is when the battery needs to be changed.

My Taylor scale is eerily accurate BUT if it's bumped, dropped, jumped on etc you HAVE to reset it. Take the battery out, put it back in, step on it, let it zero out and THEN weigh. I have to do this every time the dogs or kids get to it ;)

lizzyINPA 06-30-2009 11:52 PM

LOL well then I'd better move it upstairs to my room LOL

The cat stands on it , the kids bump it, all that stuff LOL.

I finally realized earlier today I needed to re-seat the battery and then it worked much better. ahhh.
