Default What do you think?

I am taking classes to become a R.N. I am morbidly obese and have 100 pounds to lose...the younger girls are vocally overcritical of my body...as if the mirror didn't tell me I am....huge for my height. "She's so fat, ugly, huge, disgusting....blah, blah, blah....Sometimes the comments really bother me. Other times I let it roll off my back. If I hadn't signed up for the equinox challenge, I probably would be more devastated. Ironically, my neighbor, the very next day noticed that I had been losing weight. I hate all these body/ self-esteem issues that the fat causes. I tried to seek out an ED specialist in the local area. Because I moved to a smaller town, there really aren't any resources except 1-2.5 hours away. Sigh. I have not been bingeing as much. I am nervous about my mid-terms and finals though. When you suceeders were first implementing changes, was there anything that helped you not to overeat, eat the wrong foods, or stopped you from bingeing yourself into a food coma?

Helpful? I just said NO. I told myself that getting healthy was my ONLY option and every single other thing that went against that was out. Binging was OUT. Overeating was OUT.

I planned my meals AND my portion sizes. I still do.

For instance. Tonight we're having chicken pizza's. I am having:
1 medium whole wheat tortilla
3/4 cup boneless/skinless baked chicken breast
1/4 cup red onion
1/4 cup red pepper
3 medium mushrooms
2 T tomato paste
1/4 cup shredded cheese.

I will MAKE and EAT my pizza and not touch another bite. It's not an option to NOT do this. I just have to.

Read your sig line. Now REREAD it. And REREREAD IT again. Take it to heart.

I'm still very much in progress, but...

- finding an exercise I enjoy and keeping active
- making sure I eat enough to ensure I'm not starving
- working on new ways to make things I enjoy eating
- taking it one day at a time

I just have to say, those girls critisizing you are going to be terrible nurses. Where is the empathy? Are they going to treat their patients the same way? Wow, my nursing instructors would have crawled all over them if they even thought about talking that way!

Hang in there. I was at my highest weight in NS, and there are more people who will accept you as who you are than those that will judge you. Your patients especially will not care if you are big, little, green, blue or purple as long as you are a compassionate nurse! You will do great!

uh those girls are going to be NURSES??? wow. I think they chose the wrong profession! all the women ('cept me) in my family are nurses and the patients are bad enough with their comments to ALL nurses, not just big, but I'm shocked at students doing that. I doubt they'll succeed in that job.

It's NURSING, not "America's Next Hottest Nurse"...those girls need to GROW UP and get some empathy...
Be the best nurse you can be. Study hard, and do the best you can with your diet and exercise. Tune the rest out, because it really doesn't matter. You won't remember these girls at your 20th Reunion...

Chin UP! Hit the books!! Take care of yourself!!! You'll be just FINE...

Stupid immature girls need a wake up call. I hope you can find the strength to stand up for yourself and not take any crap from them. Be strong. Dont back down and know that you are a worthy person and deserve to be at school as much as they do. If they continue the comments, I would go to the dean of your school and complain. There just isnt room in our adult life to have to deal with the immaturity and stupidity of people like that.

Take a look at the progress and goal picture threads. There are some seriously inspirational pictures and stories there. If those ladies and gents can do it, you and I can too!

I, too, am appalled at these girls in your class. What are they, 12 years old? What a bunch of losers.

I have taken the slow road. I changed one habit a month until I needed to tweak my intake and decided to count points instead of calories so I went to Weght Watchers. So stopping a binge is a matter of looking at the points I have and budgeting.

But I wanted to say great for you going into nursing. Imagine how it will feel when you have gotten your degree and gotten to your goal weight. Then when you have obese patients you can encourage them and inspire them and empathise with them all at the same time. And you can talk to them about health issues related to weight from experience as well as "book learning". You're going to be a wonderful nurse. Think about that before you binge.

ouch~I hate when people say hurtful things... those girls suck!
anyways~just remember that if you stay on plan you will get healthier and feel better about yourself and thats all that matters to heck with what they say~I know it's hurtful but ignore them and be the better person.. & if you do goof up sometimes remember we all have and start back again the next day and never give up and since those girls attitudes suck so bad Maybe you will be the head of nursing some day and be there boss ~And then watch them kiss your butt.
I have always learned when someone is bullying it's because they have issues they do not like about thereselves.
I had a neighbor call me waddles everyday as a child when I got on the school bus so I believe all of us are not strangers to jerks!
So hang in there so for motivation remember you can have the last laugh!!
By the way ~you have lost alot of weight and maybe they are noticing also and just trying to goof you up because they feel so dang insecure about themselves and are afraid they will not have anyone to pick on anymore.

GOODLUCK

Better Health 3,

I seem to recall from school, back when we still rode dinosaurs, that you know in advance the schedule of your finals and so on. If that is still the case, then you need to jump on HotMama's advice right quick and plan out EXACTLY what you are going to eat and when for that very stressful period.

See, you can't allow yourself to overeat just because you are in a stressful time --- life is going to throw you a TON of those times and you won't always have a warning beforehand. So, one of the really cool lessons you can learn from school is how to handle the rough patches, eating-wise. Make sure you have plenty of healthful things to snack on, make sure you are drinking enough water and make sure your meals and snacks are packed with lots of good nutrition.

As for those other snide ladies, you need to ask yourself why they are so interested in your weight? Either they feel a need to undercut your confidence (are you doing better than them in classwork?) or they are so insecure/scared/desperate that they need to hurt someone else to make themselves feel better. Either way, it sounds like a real WEAKNESS on their part to me.

Good luck!

Like everyone else says: your classmates are poor excuses for human beings and a worry if they're really going into a caring profession; plus, you can carry on doing what you're doing and lose the weight you want: the road to becoming better than morons for those others is a lot harder and I bet they won't take it. I really admire you sticking it out without sticking one on them.

One of the reaons I want to become a RN is to work with the overweight and obese population. I have experienced weightism in my health care throughout the years. I wanted to find out the damage that I am doing to my body living obese. Wish I would have known earlier, epecially about the ability of nerves that can't be regenerated once the damage is done. Yikes.

I will carry on.
