Height: 5'3" - I got taller!

Talking Yay! I feel so accomplished today.

I am so excited - I have been trying to find an at-home workout I really love for ages and discovered my holy grail. Today in the mail I received my first two Leslie Sansone DVDs from her Walk-at-Home series. I love walking, but small children, Alaska weather, and lack of funds for a treadmill have severely limited much of my walking, and I cannot leave the house in the morning to workout alone.

With those difficulties acknowledged, I am THRILLED to report that I just did three miles of the first DVD and loved it. Even at 10:00 pm, after a three mile walk to the park and a full day, I managed three more miles and feel SO pumped!

Yay! I am so excited to make this a regular habit. And almost seven miles of walking today? Total NSV

Wonderful!
I can get some of her stuff from the library: but I haven't seen this particular one. I'll keep an eye out for it. Winter will be here all too soon, too.

I still can't believe how fast it goes. I am used to miles going by slowly, but they just fly by for some reason I have yet to identify . Looking to do three (or more!) miles after this post.

That is awesome! I've been hearing all kinds of praises about these DVDs. What exactly does she teach you?

Wow that looks perfect for me. The weather is horrible here; it is getting way too hot. I have been doing some in-home dancing, but I don't want anything too strenuous at first. This looks like something I could really do at home! Yay! I am happy for you and really glad that you shared this!

Honestly she doesn't teach anything very novel or complicated - it is essentially walking/marching in place with some variation thrown in and arm exercises to boost it up a bit. It's easy and not too physically tricky (like a huge routine you have to learn or you get no exercise) but it really gets your heart rate up and you can walk anywhere from 1-5 miles in reasonably short order. Leslie is very cheerful and encouraging, and it is a workout doable at 100+ pounds overweight that has a very low chance of harming your joints or causing injuries.

It's cheerful dance music that you're walking to, so good to do in the morning. Of the two DVDs I have currently, I prefer the Walk-Slim volume as it is more speed focused and less strength/toning, but all her workouts are pretty solid and have the same basic walk steps at their core.

On that note - did 4 miles last night, off to do more.

I love having a double handful of exercise tapes that I can use when the weather is bad or I want something different to do. I have some of the walk away the pounds, and one richard Simmons (silly fun, but the music is great and the moves are easy). Then I have at least one each of yoga, pilates, and kick-boxing. The Biggest Loser dvd is good, as is the Fat Burning Workout for Dummies. And I also have a couple of "dancey" programs -- Latin, Afro-Brazilian Cardio, belly-dancing workout. And then three challenging programs -- Denise Austin, The Firm Basics (with weights), and Karen Voigt.

If you are looking for videos, I highly recommend looking at Collage Video. They have ALL sorts of exercise videos, and you can narrow it down by level, impact, and style. They even have specialty videos like chair dancing (for those who are in wheelchairs, or so heavy that standing exercise is too much for them), videos for seniors (which also work really well for people just starting out), and programs for folks with back pain and arthritis.

I love Lesie's workout, and do them all the time!

If you have free Exercise TV on Demand, they have some Leslie workouts. I think the heading is "start walking." This month they have a one mile, two mile and three mile walk that she did for the American Heart Association.

I think it's also available here, but might take awhile to download:

Enjoy,
Sherry
