Strange pain

Hi chicks,

I know I should see a doctor, and I do have an appointment for a physical coming up. But in the interest of curiousity . . .

I have bee having slight pain in my left side, just under the bottom of my front rib cage. Its not pain really, more like an annoyance. it almost feels like a slight cramp? Sometimes it's on the other side too. But I Has anyone else ever felt this? I cant feel any bumps or lumps, Ive rubbed myself enough there to need to propose!

Any thoughts would be helpful!

I have something similar, but I know that it's from all-night coughing sessions over the past week, so I doubt that's helpful for you.

It doesn't sound like anything major... it's not sharp, nor deep, and it's not consistently in one place. Can you pinpoint when it is likely to show up? Do you feel it more after eating? After exercising? How long have you noticed it?

Im not trying to freak you out, but my Dad had a "catch" in his side and it turned out to be lung cancer. I would definately see a dr, just in case. It may be nothing though..........

Don't forget the disclaimer at the bottom of this page about medical advice. Best to see a doctor if you are conserned.

It could be costal chondritis. It's basically inflammation of the cartilidge around the ribs. It's very common and you really don't have to worry about it. Take ibuprofen for a few days and it should do away. If you do the ibuprofen and it doesn't go away, I would mention it to your doctor.

Although your gall bladder sits on your right side under your rib cage, you may be having some referred pain, especially if you feel it move from right to left. Get it checked out!

I agree with everyone else that you need to get it checked out. It may be just good old fashioned "gas" bubbles or something else. Better safe then sorry!

I had a similar pain on my right side ribcage about a year ago, under my right breast. It was very severe, it even hurt to breathe because my lungs would hit against it as they expanded. I actually went to the emergency room! It turned out to be some sort of severe muscle spasm with no known cause. They gave me some anti-inflammatories and sent me home. It was more than a little embarrassing, but it hurt so badly I couldn't believe it was something so basic.
