Freezing Bulk Cooking...

How do ya'll keep it from getting freezer burnt or tasting bad?

I LOVE bulk cooking cause it keeps me on track but I have not done it in awhile because when I freeze it and go back for it a few days later, it never tastes right.

So...I wanna know what ya'll use to freeze your foods.

Thank you! :carrot:

I don't actually batch freeze a whole lot of stuff. But when I do, I use ziploc freezer bags--and to avoid freezer burn, do not leave any air in the bag.
So, put your food in the bag. Insert a straw into one corner. Close the bag all the way to the straw. Then suck the air out. Pull out the straw and seal up as quick as you can.
hth!

You can maybe get one of those pumps that sucks the air out of the bags. Its not that expensive really.....you need special bags though. I bought some and I liked them. Its fun using the pump....hee hee...

MugCanDoIt: When I was at the store lastnight I was looking at the bags and thought it was a great idea but I couldn't find the pump :( So, next time I go to the store I'm going to look for it again.

Hi utgirl09,

Thanks for those links.

I corrected the doubled http:// in your quote; you might want to fix in your post also.

Surprisingly, you can often find the pump things at Aldi. And it's Aldi, so you know you're not going to spend a ton of $$$.

The pump bags, I think, are kind of similar to the FoodSaver machine which is what we have. We don't do a lot of pre-cooking much lately, but it was a LIFE SAVER when we were getting all the meats and veggies cut for the gumbo and jambalaya we made for our wedding last year. We bought in bulk at Costco, cut everything up, and separated it in pounds for easy cooking. <3 the Food Saver!
