Luxury chocolates lasted 3 days in the fridge

On Thursday someone gave me a box of Thornton's luxury chocolates as a thankyou. (One of the many who hasn't noticed I'm losing weight but it was a kind thought.)
On Thursday I ate 2 in the evening. I had spare calories.
On Friday I ate 2 in the evening, I planned them in from before breakfast.
Tonight I was going to have 2 and still end with a lower calorie day - but they looked so good, I decided to have 4 - and still be under budget, ready for a higher day tomorrow.
Tonight they are in the bin. I know that once I start to rationalizing 'just another one', it's a slippery slope that picks up speed to eating the whole box.
Pleased with myself for lasting 3 days though!

Definitely a good idea. I decided the next time I really wanted chocolates that I'd go to the local 'good place' and just pick out a few. And not really care if I look silly asking for 4 or 6 chocolates. :D

This obviouslly wasn't my fridge ! I have to find a neighbor to give them to or I will eat them as I have no will power.

Ooh, Ailidh... thank goodness I don't live in the UK anymore! Thornton's Diplomats are absolutely the best thing EVER!!! Were there any in your box??? Did you eat one??? Good for you for chucking them.

Well done :) I bought my husband some thornton's truffles for his birthday and was shocked when I looked up the number of calories - 83 each!!!! Once I would of eaten 10 at of those and I would never of thought the calories are so high. Don't think I could of thrown them away though!

rosiem 05-23-2009 04:41 PM

Way to go throwing them out! Chocolate is so hard to resist... :-)

Rosinante 05-23-2009 04:51 PM

I think the best/worst moment was opening the box - that smell of Goood chocolate!

No, diplomats, I don't know those. I remember in the sweet by and by my mother used to buy me every Christmas a Thornton's casket: it was a circular casket, the walls made of nougat and the base of black chocolate, then filled with Thornton's chocolates. Sigh. That's the confectionary equivalent of that meat wrapped in more meat wrapped in cheese thing that does the rounds ..... eheu fugaces.

I'm happy to try, occasionally, to ration stuff like this because for me, to be afraid of a food is to give it too much power. 3 days tends to be my max though.

Well you did way better than I would have done. :congrat:

Way to go! I know how it can be with really good chocolate. We have a place a couple hours from here that is about the best I ever had. We've always stopped there, when we're passing through that town. Truthfully, I think we'll probably continue to stop. A couple pieces of DIVINE chocolate won't kill me. :)

I got sent home from dinner at my parents' last night with half of a one-layer carrot cake that was SMOTHERED in cream cheese frosting. I had a good sized piece of it at dinner, but as soon as I got home, I tossed the rest of the cake in the outside garbage can because on the drive home, I was already planning how I was going to cut it up, freeze it, eat one piece a day, etc....and I knew that was baloney, that I would have it all eaten in less than a day. I'm sick about throwing it away, but I would feel worse if I ate it.

That is just awesome. You knew your limit and you didn't exceed it. I think this is all about learning good habits for LIFE and you are doing it.

Cinnamon 05-23-2009 09:03 PM

WOW, you did great! good job

Tai 05-23-2009 09:07 PM

Good job Ailidh! You have so much more control than me. Once I tasted one, I would have eaten them all! I also really admire the control it took to throw them away. You're really doing great.

Rosinante 05-24-2009 02:44 AM

Thankyou, you are very kind.

Isn't it strange that we (I) never wake up with a food craving? Chocolate for breakfast? ish.

Windchime 05-24-2009 11:46 AM

I don't wake up with a food craving (chocolate or carrot cake for breakfast)....unless I know there is chocolate or carrot cake in the house. Then I will become obsessed with it and keep picking at it mindlessly till it's gone.

I heard something on the radio the other day that reminded me that I have a 1/2 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips in my freezer. I immediately started thinking about them. Somehow I forgot them again, but now they're on my mind since I opened this thread. They may have to go out to the garbage.
