Turns out, I am a Night Runner.

Recently I have decided to get over my uncomfortable-ness with running by... well, running!

This plan has been thwarted since I can't seem to get up early enough to get out the door. Last night I decided to run at night.

My entire perspective has changed. Running at night hides all the things that I have felt self-conscious about during the day. I get very red-faced when I run and I am always thinking about that but at night no one can see me. There are less people out - I can pant without worrying that I sound like my dog! And it's actually quite beautiful -- the moon, the stars, the lights of the city.

I think I'm a night runner! And I would have never guessed it could be so different so I thought I would share.

I've run at night a few times. Only issue is my usual running path gets a bit eerie as its on a quiet road where no houses really face the road. To kind of solve that issue, I've run with my husband but he is faster than me so I would give myself a 5 minute head start.

*shakes fist at people who can run outside because it's not 11 degrees where they live*

That's great that you can run at night. The couple of times that I schedule night runs I get a .25 average since it's easy to give myself excuses later in the day (I'm tired, been a long day, etc.). Good luck!

I don't run... but I do enjoy walking or biking at night. It is very pretty and peaceful.

Whenever I get the odd desire to run, it's inevitably at night! I find it to be peaceful. I always wonder if I look like a crazy burglar bad girl because we live in a downtown without a lot of evening runners.

It is beautiful. Now if it would just warm up.... 11 degrees here too Eves. Bah!

That sounds awesome! That is so cool that you have found a way to do something that you love and adapt it just for you.

I LOVE to run at night, seriously, especially in the summer. The heat is so bad during the day that I can't get through my runs. But if I wait and do it an 2 hours before bed it's perfect - it's nice and cool out, there is not really anyone around, I grab my pooch and my hubby follows on his bicycle and get er done! :)

Jess do you run on pavement? I'd like to start running once the snow melts but 1. I'm concerned about my knees and 2. know my form will suck. How'd you not injure yourself? (why does injure look like a funny word right now?)

Val if you have a running room in your town (or even if you don't you can take this online) I HIGHLY recommend the "Learn to Run" course. It's like $50 or $60 and it is a 10 week course that shows you the proper way to run to minimize injuries. If you do the course in the store then you also get a built in group of people to run with once a week! It's so awesome, it takes you from pretty much no running at all to being able to run 10 minutes and then walk 1 minute in just 10 weeks!. The trainers are awesome and they are right there with you every single step of the way!!

I took the course last summer and LOVED it!

Sounds delightful to me. I usually run around 5:15, so it's dark then too. I love the quiet at that time, but I think I would like downtown scenery after dark in the evening too.

Run safe, y'all.

FWIW I'm a long-time night runner, and I like a reflective sash for general use, and I add blinking armbands when I'm in a location where pedestrians, runners, and bikes in the road would be a surprise rather than totally expected and watched for.

Night running is so much fun! It's my favorite thing in the summer because it's a lot cooler. Plus there's no cars in my area which is great.

Sounds amazing!

Thanks for the idea :) I actually live near the arctic circle in a very remote Canadian town so I'm pretty sure I wont be able to take the course in any store within a 500 mile radius. I guess I could cough up money to take an online course though.

Someday when I can run, I think I'll probably be a night runner too. :)
