Default 5k #1

So I did my first 5K on Saturday. The race was split so that the runners started first followed by walkers 5 minutes later. I only planned on walking, so being the brilliant person I am, did not stretch very much. Well, about half way in, I decided I wanted to jog a little. So I started a regiment of jogging, walking, jogging, walking, jogging, etc. and finished the race jogging the last half mile. After completing my first mile in 17 minutes walking, I decided I wanted to aim for a finishing time of 45 minutes, which meant I really had to pick up the pace. I didn't quite reach my goal but ended with the time of 46 min. 20 seconds. I came in so close to the last runner that they thought I was in the running group!!! My shins still hurt a little today as the whole race was done on asphalt. My goal for my June 5K is 40 min. flat, with LOTS of stretching before the race and plenty of jogging during the race. I've been flying on cloud 9 since Friday!!!

Woohoo!!!! Congrats on the first one. I don't stretch much before jogging. I do walk a bit and then stretch a lot afterward.

Congratulations! That is a great job for your first 5K. You should be proud. And it is funny that they thought you were a runner. WTG!

The walking was actually harder on my legs then the jogging, don't ask me why, but it was a kind of relief to jog rather then walk. I felt looser and springier when I jogged. Weirdness...
