Chrysalis - here's what I do when I want to go somewhere and nobody else wants to go. I call the school - elementary or middle school - depending on what age kid will work - and ask the principal who deserves a treat. There are lots of kids who never get to do stuff like that because their families can't afford it. I live in a small town, but even if you live in a city I'll bet there's a church group or big brother/sister group or somewhere that you could match up with a kid who would love to make a new friend.
I love the Ringling Bros. circus and my kids have been more times than they can count. They're always glad when I take somebody else for a change. :-) They also take a pass on some of my trips to see fireworks. I love fireworks, so I'll go to our AAA ball park 50 miles away on Friday nights to see them. DH and the girls think fireworks are for the 4th of July!
It's really fun to take a kid who doesn't get to do things like that very often. You appreciate your experience that much more. I've also gotten to know lots of kids this way that I otherwise wouldn't know.
