What kind of Scale do you use??

Yesterday I was 223... today I was 226... then I stepped on the scale again this morning and it said 229... Took a shower and stood on it soaking wet... 226 again.

DAMN SCALE - Gotta buy a new one LOL (sorry this is something I posted before, but I figured it would make a good thread)

I think I gained an actual pound over the holidays... I don't trust what it said this morning. It's been going a little funky for a while now. Then again it's about 8 years old. I'm happy with how much weight I have lost, and I figure pictures are worth more than numbers... I posted pictures on the Progress Pics thread :)

What kind of scale do you use?

Are the face based scales better than digital? Should I go all out and buy an actual Doctor's scale?

I don't think it matters as long as it's consistent. I have a thinner scale. I had bought a weight watchers one but it gave me different readings depending on where I put it in my bathroom. Keep the box it comes with and return it if you don't like it.

It's not so much how accurate it is as much as consistency. If the pounds come off, the scale will show it.

Thanks :)

What threw me for a loop is it went from 226 to 229 in a two minute period... I didn't have anything to eat or drink between, but I DID go to the washroom in between... crazy thing.

I think I'll get a good quality face based scale... I don't think I trust those digital ones anymore

I have the base model WW digital scale and it's worked well for me. I do have to find a level place to put it or it will not tare right. It weighs in either 0.2 lb.or 0.1 kg increments. I have a certain tile I always set it on in my bathroom and I usually get on 3 times just top make sure! Strange, I know!

I've had a terrible time with scales. I'll buy one that a friend has recommended as being totally reliable, and I have the same experience as tamaralynn. I throw one away and try a new one every year.

About a month ago, I got a Taylor scale (from Amazon) and, knock wood, it's been accurate. If you move it, you have to tap it so it resets, but then it will be accurate. I hope you find one that works for you!!

This topic comes up from time to time. I have a Tanita digital scale that does the fat% as well as weight. I've had it for about 4 or 5 years and would like to get a new one with more features but it works so well I haven't bought one yet. :)

Hey!

If the scale is meant to measure body fat % or water %, then you have to step on it with bare feet that are dry. I don't know whether this would affect the weight reading or not, but it will throw the other things off.

Weigh at the same time of day, only ONCE a day, wearing the same clothes or no clothes. Best time is in the morning after you pee. Or, weigh only once a week for recording purposes, with the same rules.

Don't get into the habit of weighing yourself every hour or you'll go blind and crazy. ;)

I have the cheap WW from Walmart. Like $20. Its right on no matter how many times I step on it.

Lifeguard 12-29-2007 04:20 PM

I have the cheapest scale the store offered. But then again I am less concerned about preciseness. Once I drop below a 5 or 0 (ie. 235 or 230) I like to see it consistently come in below that number. I know I can up or down 5lbs in 24 hours easily so this rule keeps me from going crazy over the number but gives me reassurance that I am not gaining (on those fat days).

I also have a five year old Tanita that I'm happy with.

I need a scale that says I'm 100 lbs lighter. *sigh*

My scale was the cheapest one at Target and it's been dead on the whole time....

We have a Health-O-Meter digital that weighs to the .1 pound, checks body fat, hydration, and tracks your weightloss up to four people. We've had it over a year and it's been very consistant, even with my (at the time) 270 pound fiancee. This looks like it, except our numbers are bright blue, not grey.

gina1221 12-29-2007 07:07 PM

I have the Tanita that measure weight to .5 and fat %. I've had it about 4 or 5 years and it's usually within a pound or two of the doctors scale (I attribute this difference to clothing since I'm dressed at the doctors and undressed to weigh at home).

I agree with Jay, only weigh once a day and at the same time or even once a week. I weigh once every day (helps keeps me honest with myself) but only record an "official" weight once a week.

Trazey34 12-29-2007 07:13 PM

I have a crappy-ish digital one - it's fine as along as you're careful about battery life LOL

For about a week & a half, I was consistently losing EXACTLY one pound a day, thought I was pretty hot stuff but wondered why the pants weren't looser heheheh hello BATTERY!

and another time the scale didn't budge after 2 months and pants were falling off hahahah

ME DUMB....

jordan 12-29-2007 08:22 PM

Tanita, also. It has been very accurate with weight (though I question the body fat features accuracy).
