New Here

Thought I'd say hi instead of just lurking.

I'm Shelly. SAHM of 3 great kids: dd13.75yo, ds 12.5yo, dd 7yo. We homeschool. The last week of January I ended up in the hospital with chest pain. Very scary for a 43yo! Everything checked out fine, but the cardiologist gave me the "straighten yourself out now, or see me later speech". He suggested South Beach and the Y. He promised I'd feel like a new woman in 6 weeks. It's been 5 weeks, I've lost 18 pounds and have learned to like the Y. My kids love it and go to regular classes there. The life style changes have truly become a family affair.

I'm trying to focus on short term goals as the over 100 pounds to lose is too overwhelming for me. My first short term goal is to hit that 20 pounds lost mark and I am training to walk my very first 5K on April 21. A lofty goal for a very unathletic/exercise hater like myself. Although I despise the exercise, I really like how it makes me feel!

Looking forward to getting to know you all,

Welcome!

You're only 2 pounds from your first goal! How cool is that?! Glad you're here!

We have a lot in common!!!!! Welcome to 3fc and the 100 lb club. I have 3 kids as well, although there is no way you'd get me to homeschool them. I give all you parents who do that, and I beleive we have a few of them here, quite a bit of credit. That CAN'T be easy. But I do work out of my home and I am also 43 years old and we had similiar starting weights. Of course I'm 5 inches shorter then you, but, yeah, whatever.....

You've made a great turn around in 5 short weeks!!!! Having to lose over 100 lbs does seem a bit overwhelming at first, but once you really get into the new lifestyle, you begin to think, hmmm, why not 100 lbs? Good luck to you on your journey. Hope to get to know you a lot better. So post often.

Hi Shelly -- great job -- sorry for the "jolt" from the doctor but sometimes we need a kick in the butt!! I belong to the Y too -- I'm not sure what I enjoy more -- the exercise or the fact I'm alone (kid's in their respective areas)!!!

Good luck, you've made a great start and there is great advice and amazing support floating all over here!!

:welcome2: Shelly!

I'm so glad you decided to join us and look forward to getting to know you! I'm 42 and from the Tampa area. I'm also following Southbeach and do my workouts at the 'Y.'

Losing 100 lbs can seem overwhelming, so your plan to set mini-goals is a great plan. You've made awesome progress! Keep going.

Welcome, Shelly! Don't let that 100 pound goal get in your way, you can do this! I've gotten to where I crave my workouts, not only for the good it does for my body, but for the good it does for the mind and soul. That is "MY" time, and I am worth it. I can listen to my ipod, contemplate something that's going on with one of my kiddos, make mental plans, whatever. It feeds my soul....good luck to you!
