Question for calorie counters...
Hey ladies...I've recently joined at thedailyplate.com. Their formula says I should eat 1800 calories for a 1-2 lb/week weight loss. So when I log in my exercise it adds those calories burned to calories I could eat....and it jumps up to above slightly 2000 calories for the day. Is that how you calorie counters handle exercise? OR, do you figure you're eating 1800 calories a day and you will not increase that just because you exercise? I've only been back on the wagon since January and while I've lost about 13 pounds it seems I've hit a lull and I've gone up a pound over the past couple of days. I know it could be due to a multitude of things, including water retention, etc...but since I'm new to keeping track I'm not sure how my weight fluctuates during the month. Mainly, though, I'm just concerned that I'm eating too many calories with the exercise. Comments or suggestions?

I am not a calorie counter per say. But you do have to keep adjusting your calories to keep your body guessing. Just like exercise it gets used to what you are doing and adjusts. When I started back in Jan. I was eating about 2000 calories. Hit a plateau about a 2 weeks ago and now I go from 1500 -1700. I changed it up and down. Two days are usually around 1500 and the rest of the week is usually 1700.

I stay around 1600-1800, and still work out. My calories are more or less the same. I just had to add some in from 1400-1600 as I stalled out. I also forgot to keep updating my weight in fitday so it was still working with the higher weight.

I plan for about 1800 calories a day. When I exercise, I consider it bonus calories burned and I do not add it to my calories allowed.
It's kinda up to you as to how you want to handle it. 1800 calories should be enough to keep you satisfied. I wouldn't count the exercise unless it's a day you just can't seem to keep full. |
I try to aim for 1500-1750 per day. I exercise about 3-4 times per week, and do not add more calories unless I'm really hungry - and then I might have a protein shake or something for 100 calories. Usually I'll plan for that in my day though, so I save calories for it.

I just try to eat less on days I don't exercise.
Eating even a bit more when I exercise hasn't ever helped me. |
I hit a lull as well after a great start, and I think I wasn't eating enough. So I upped my calories to 1600-1800. I don't eat extra though. When I don't exercise, I try to stick to the low range. When I do (and hopefully MORE OFTEN) I will eat a bit more. We'll see if the scale moves this week.
If not, I may do like Sharon and vary my calories every few days. A few high, a few low. |
