Default weighing everyday

I was just wondering what you think about weighing urself everyday? I personally like to weigh myself everyday but some ppl swear against it. I'm thinking their reason is because the weight might fluctuate? What is your take on weighing in and the frequency ?

i usually weigh multiple times a day... i havent weighed in a week because i havent been good on my plan and im scared to!

I started off weighing myself at every chance (this was at the gym). I have since relaxed a bit and am trying for once a week. Weighing myself daily made it hard for me to figure out what my weekly loss was, when I lost, etc. So in the end it felt like I was losing weight every time I weighed myself, which was every few days. And as great as that sounds, it felt strange. So now it's once a week - I feel like it's more reliable that way in a sense. Even though it may not actually be, I'm not sure. It's really a personal decision, although I understand where you may be coming from - I asked the very same question a few months ago

Mini-goal 1: Reach 257lbs
Mini-goal 2: Reach 222lbs
Mini-goal 3: Reach 209lbs
Mini-goal 4: Reach 199!
Mini-goal 5: Reach 179 lbs (overweight BMI category!!)
Mini-goal 6: Reach 160lbs
Final goal: Reach 145lbs

Mini exercise goal 1: Begin running September 2012
Mini exercise goal 2: Celebrate graduation with a 5K

I weigh everyday first thing in the morning and will continue to do so. I know the reason I got so big was because I didn't weigh for years. If you do weigh every day, you must understand that your weight will fluctuate even if you've eaten perfectly and exercised. You can't let that bother you. If it does, change to a weekly weigh-in.

I weigh every morning, I think it helps keep me focused. If I find that I'm up a pound or two, I can reflect back upon what I've been eating and how much water I've been drinking and nip the problem in the bud. I only count my weight loss once per week, so my official WI day is on Wednesdays and that's when I update my ticker and announce any more loss to those who might ask.
First mini goal 10% loss - met!
Second mini goal: 250 - met!
Third mini goal - 230
Fourth mini goal - 212 (minus 100 pounds)
End of summer goal

I LOVE weighing daily! It goes up and it goes down. I also graph it. Would you believe there's a pattern? Zooms down, then horizontalish, then zooms down, then horizontalish. Weighing daily and noticing this pattern keeps me sane on the "official" once a weeks when I change my trackers here - this week was net -0.2 or something, not low enough to change. Normally this would have driven me INSANE. But now that I have my handy chart, I can see how that's just a bump within a normal pattern and (cross-fingers) I expect to post a decent loss this coming Monday. If I didn't track daily, that glitch would have been very likely to send me into a complete tailspin.

I'm pretty much with Tammy. I think weighing every morning does make me face up to it in a way that I chose not to for years. However, I just record my official weigh in every Monday. When you weigh everyday it is difficult to not get despondent when there are fluctuations, especially if I've been working very hard. However, I have got used to my weight going up the day after big strength training workouts/ or after eating certain foods that hold onto water (e.g. rice)/ totm/ so it now doesn't distract me. The only problem I have to work on is seeing a loss mid week and then relaxing for the rest of the week - that's the only reason I'm considering just keeping it to a once a week thing - think I work harder all week if I don't know what I weigh.

I weigh every day as well. Every morning is what I consider my official weight, more or less. I'll also weigh myself at other times of the day to just see the weight fluctuations. I've made every tuesday though my official weigh in day.
You can't out-exercise poor eating habits.

I am the lone ranger here. I cannot weigh in everyday, not right now. IF I weigh everyday, it subconsciously gives me a reason to eat. IF the scale is down, I think, well - look how well I am doing, I can have something as a treat! IF the scale is UP - I think to myself, well, I am obviously not loosing, I may as well have a treat. It has taken me a long time this time to stay away from that stupid machine. I DO NOT STEP on it until Friday morning. That is one part of the new life for me and I am not going to venture from it. It works for me that way, and not against me.

I don't know that I will ever be one that can get on it everyday. If I step on it once - I'll step on the stupid thing 20 times in a day.

Once a week for me.

I started out weighing every day. Drove myself CRAZY with flucuations. Then I had to take out the battery and make it only once a week. Now that I have been doing it longer and understand the flucuations I can weigh myself everyday again and it not drive me crazy. It does give me info about why it flucuates. For example if I stay up late at night (like 2:00am) I retain more water and will usually be up a pound the next day. But If I get a good night sleep the next morning the pound is gone. I find more information about myself weighing everyday. But I did have a hard time with it in the begining. jelly

I avoided the scale for close to 15 years, 15 years that is. Didn't go on even once. In fact when I finally did go on the scale in May 2006 I had not a clue as to what number it was going to say and was actually happy that it said only 287 lbs. I thought for sure I had hit the 300 lb. mark.

When I first started this little venture I weighed myself everyday, always in the mornings. I only record my weight on Mondays though. I am still only recording on Mondays, but no longer weigh myself every day. I just got too nuts with it. I would drive myself crazy with the daily fluctuations. One time I got so crazy from a 2 lb gain in one day (on a Wednesday) that I went out and bought an expensive new scale. When Monday rolled around again not only had I lost those 2 lbs, but an additional pound and a half. Had I not been on the scale on Wednesday I never would have seen that 2 lb "supposed" weight gain and just would have seen the 1 and half pound loss.

So I vowed from then on in to only weigh on Mondays and stuck to it for a few weeks. I have lately have been sneaking on during the week a couple of times but really try to control myself and not get too nuts with the fluctuations that occur. I have seen weight gains during the week, but come Monday every single time they are gone and I have yet to see a weight gain. Those fluctuations can drive you crazy, I really ought to go back to weighing only on Mondays. I'm trying, I really am.

I have the same mentality about weighing as Mrs. Quadcrew. I also do the same thing when someone notices that I've lost weight...I think..."I've been doing good. I can have this chocolate bar".....which is a TRIGGER food for me and then the bingeing begins. I hate the scale.

Lord help me!!!!

When I started losing weight two years ago I only weighed once a week. I knew from past experiences that the daily fluctuations would frustrate and distract me. Plus, I liked getting on the scale once a week and seeing big loss (at 214 pounds and a complete eating and exercise turnaround I enjoyed 3-5 pound losses for the first few weeks - I knew they would taper off but I like them while they lasted!). That was much more motivating at the time than daily weigh ins.

As my weight loss progressed and I became more confident I began weighing in daily. Not so much to track my weight loss, but to chart by body's patterns. After a couple of months, I knew exactly what to expect when I exercised and ate right - and what to expect when I didn't. Knowing what to expect during TOM, or when I ate a meal higher in salt content, or after a day of heavy exercise, took a lot of anxiety out of losing weight. Ironically, weighing daily helped me take the focus off of the number on the scale and focus on what really mattered...how I looked, felt, and how my clothes fit.

Over the past few months I've managed to regain about 20 of the 80 pounds I'd lost. I'm back to weighing weekly. Not because the fluctuations bother me but because I'm still in the mindset that the number on the scale is not the be all, end all of my success - just one tool to measure it.

I know that once I reach my goal weight again I'll weigh daily for the rest of my life. Like another poster suggested, not keeping constant tabs on my current weight is how I managed to allow myself to become obese to begin with. And it is how I came to battle these 20 pounds for a second time.

Like many others, I weigh everyday because it kind of keeps me accountable. I don't see a problem with it as long as you are aware of the fluctuations that WILL come, especially with TOM. I'm up 2 lbs because of TOM, but at least I realize why.
